What kind of wood composite construction? Plywood? Wood over aluminum
frames as used for minesweepers? Fiberglass over plywood over wood
frames as done by the neighbors in the fifties? What do you mean by
modern? Or composite? Wood planks and nails are composite, compared to
a dugout,

You can't be asking me. I don't know anything about boat building.
I am sure the correct post attribute is to justwait .......

Right now my camera only spits out craptime movies.. I was looking for
programs a while back that would convert them, but every one I tried,
lost a lot of quality.. And not being a "movie" camera, they are not
that clear to start with Any free software reccomendations would be
appreciated... I will let you know.
Take a look at VLC media player. Played your videos off the shelf with no
tweaking necessary.

When did SWF become "Brownie" or is that a "Brownie"?

Harry's new affectionate name for SWF.

Really?

How cute.

Must be tough on Harry to be clever enough to think that one up - what
with 2000 posts a day on that group he moderates plus the 200 or so he
posts here every day. I must be getting to him. All part of the
master plan to save the stump - if I drive Harry nuts and he starts
shooting up the neighborhood, I'll be able to save one stump.

Greenpeace has nothing on me.

SAVE THE STUMP!!

I will say one thing - now that you guys are keeping Larry...whoops -
Harry busy over here, it's been very quiet over at the other place.

Which, until Chuck gets back, is fine with me. Chuck can deal with
Harry's "suggestions" like ban everybody but me.

It's been an experience I'll tell you what. :)

You've done a great job moderating, Brownie. And I never suggested you
"ban" everyone except me.

I'm afraid you don't have what it takes to "get to me." I've encountered
some really tough guys in my life. You are a marshmellow.

You need Quicktime. Horrible, but it will play it.

Eisboch
Thanks but no thanks. :-)

You might want to try this free player. Plays just about any format.

http://www.gomlab.com/eng/

Don,
That player wouldn't play the QuickTime file. I found one that would
and you might want to take a look. It's called VLC media player. I'm sorry
I forgot to copy the link, but you should be able to Google it up easily.
Thanks,
Jim

I can play mov files in Gom. There are two possible explanations. It may
be that the mov codec is left over from "when" I had QT installed. Or, Gom
went out and found a mov codec the first time I played a clip requiring it.

I've been using Gom for some time and cannot remember the details.

Thanks for the tip on VLC, I'll give it a look see.

Why this was rejected, I don't know, the keyword it noted, is not in

perspective.. Trolls and posers will be ignored..

SNIP
First off, I need to apologize for not sticking to it in the first
place.. Anyway, one poster suggested I don't know anything because I
question Tolmanns' decision to call his boat a "stitch and tape". I
will note that the whole quote was more "stitch and tape, OR composite
type".. Toleman was doing what a lot of modern plan builders do, using
familiar terms the prospective "non boat builder", builder will
understand. The Toleman for instance calls for one area to be
stitched, but it is certainly not a stitch and tape boat, it is a
composite, skin on frame. IIRC the frame of chines, stringers, and
bulkheads. Many times we use more familiar terms.. I don't call a
Gunnels, a shear strake, I don't call a seat, a thwart, I don't use
terms like "get out the wood"...It would just server to confuse a
newb, and for no productive reason, save ego in this day and age..
Toleman uses terms that folks won't have to go look up, and calling a
s+t boat, a composite, or vice versa, is no big deal, and not really
all that far off. To suggest because someone knows the difference and
though it might be useful in the context of a boating forum...

Stitch and tape boats are typically self jigging, and built with
precut and sized parts. Using tools such as a Spanish Windlass and
pulling the parts together, form the shape. They gain their strength
via a false "frame" which is created at the intersection of curved
laminate, adhered
against each others angles, creating very strong and stable joints. If
engineered properly, they are stable in all directions and are usually
made with resin and glass. The biggest difference between
stitch and tape, and skin on frame is, on a skin on frame, wood or
another material create a frame, the skins are bent around them. With
S+T the frame itself is created by the strength created at the
intersections of the curved laminate sheets..

I remember when I was a kid, some add that had a Volkswagen sitting on
a simple sheet of curved plywood. A very slight curve in a laminate
created a huge amount of structure, but you all knew that...

UNSNIP

The keyword that was noted was "liar" but I don't see where it got
that... Have fun, trolls will be ignored...

You can not and must not call Harry out on his lies, name calling and
insults. I don't know why, but almost everyone here is afraid of him.

Mystery solved. His filter DID find the word "liar" in your text. I
found it in there twice. It is hidden in the word famiLIAR that you
used two times...

I use VLC on my Mac because GOM doesn't work on Macs. VLC is okay, but
it isn't even close in terms of ease of use and speed and lack of
clunkiness as GOM.

Cultural differences I guess.
If Capt Tom says it's proper behaviour, I'll shutup.

As far as I know, and judging from our conversations, Capt. Tom would
not have a minor on the bike in the first place. At the same time, he
has not, or would not push his ideals on me, or anybody else I would
suspect... As to the "New York driving finger", I suspect he might get
a chuckle.. Geeze, lucky I did not post the next lap where she had
a verbal message 'specially for another poser on the way by

The Mouse Says.. "If your gonna' crash, do a good trick on the way

Trip-reports.com where did you go today?

Dumb Don is mindless and always has to have input from someone else.
It's sad but he has a history of that problem.

The perfect way for a kid to spend summer school vacation, huh?

Ever wonder why Harry never talks about his kids?

Well, now you know why. They have a price on his head for ruining
their lives. :)

It's old news. They have disowned him. Go figure...
