the following well considered thoughts to the readers of rec.boats:

A few weeks ago, I finished washing and applying two coats of Zaino Bros
polish on my boat. Yesterday, I stopped by to drop off some equipment I
carried home over the winter. The boat was YELLOW from pine pollen.

Anyone who has lived through a Georgia Pine Pollen outburst, knows what
I am talking about, for those who haven't, imagine someone throwing
yellow stain all over everything.

The worst part is you can actually see the trees burst in a large cloud
of pine tree sperm ( I meant to say pollen) when they orgasm (I meant to
say release) the pollen.

Everything here is yellow... even puddles after a rain.

When my wife managed a bank at the airport, she had a LOT of travelers
asking what the yellow powder all over everything was. They were
thinking toxic waste rather that amorous foliage....

Well if you want to look on the positive side, as least it is not as
obnoxious as "Love Bugs". I was in Orlando when they swarmed and that was
nasty.

Thanks for the reminder, not. They visit twice a year down here. Yuck

How long does the average swarm last? I think I would try to stock up
on food supplies and telecommute to work.

For a given area, I would say 1 to 2 weeks. They do seem to migrate from
place to place.

Here in Central Florida 1~2 weeks would be a blessing. The early event
usually in May typically lasts 4~5 Weeks. The next coming of the little
buggers starts in mid-August to early September and usually doesn't last
quite as long. Last year the *seasons* were particularly on the long side.
