Southern pansies...
Arrived around noon on Saturday - picked up the Ranger Z21 with ETEC
250 and hit the lake. It was great out there running around, checking the lake's topo map against my depth finder and GPS. Did a little fishing and caught a few schoolie stripers - fun on light tackle. Talking to a few locals at the ramp and bait shop and they were all complaining about how cold it was in the morning - 50 degrees. HA!! Pansies. I was out Sunday morning at six am and didn't get off until around 2 - beautiful weather, temps in the 60s (start temp in the low 50s) - unbelievable that I was the only one out there until about 9 am. HA!! Pansies. Fishing wasn't bad at all - smallish largemouth and some schoolie stripers down by the dam. Caught a nice 33 inch striper in about the same place I caught one last summer using Rayz sal****er eel imitation of all things at about 90 feet. Marked a lot of fish around structure, but that was the only taker at that depth. Others were schoolies working blue back herring about five feet below the surface. Anyway, the Ranger is quite the boat. I've ridden and tested my fair share, but never had the chance to fish out of one. I like it a lot - very comfortable, plenty of room for two or more, this one has electronics up the wazoo and of course, the ETEC which really makes the boat sit up and motivate. This is the first time I've had to play with a hydraulic jack plate on a bass boat - that's an experience - almost scary the speeds one can generate. Enjoying the weather immensely. Mrs. Wave is going to have a fight on her hands trying to get me back to CT. :) Heading out now even though it's raining - I can avoid the raindrops. Mrs. Wave and the girls are going shopping. Me? I'm going fishing. |
