The only ones in the video that did the right thing were the

shouldn't
have mouthed off to the cop. It would have played out much

What? A person isn't allowed to voice their concerns over the

Oh, contraire!
The vid is on Youtube, and no doubt the cop probably got fired or

i suppose my point is, that the situation was unnecessary and

The cop got suspended WITH PAY. I would expect a lawsuit soon. NO
matter how disrespectful the kid was the cop acted like a bigger

Would you apportion the blame for this incident all on the cop or
does
it
need to be spread around a little?
The kid should be cited for and if he broke a law, calling a cop
"Dude"
is
not illegal. The cop should be held 100% responsible for his abuse
of
power, totally losing control of his emotions and throwing down the
kid
without any reason.
That's not what I asked. Sure, the cop should be held accountable for
his
actions which were a bit over reactive. The little urchin needs to be
educated on becoming a responsible member of society. His training
should
have started 12 years ago.- Hide quoted text -

Get real, what did the kid do? Call the cop "dude" while the cop was
threatening him? I hope you did not raise your kids to bully someone
and then beat them for not running scared...

A little Yes sir, No sir, I'm sorry sir would have diffused that
situation
real quick.
You are dilusional.. when a cop decides to be a bully, nothing stops
him. Hell, that statey I talked about before told me once he did not
like me "because I had mispronounced his name a few years earlier",
which I had, quite innocently. He never treated me with respect, even
though his peers who all knew, and mostly liked me did... I did a lot
of work for the Ambulance crew and other public service orgs there, he
was just an ass no matter how respectful you tried to be..

An attitude has a negative effect when dealing with cops. I am
sure you have learned that lesson by now.-
I have learned actually that it really makes little difference, most
times they have decided how they are going to act before you even
talk...

*F*ck* authority. Cops are public servants, paid for by public tax
dollars. If they cannot behave reasonably, they should be tossed off the
police force.

That attitude gets you exactly what the 12 year old skateboarder got.

Why screw with cops. A bad cop can set you up and it may end up being
your word against his in court...........guess who wins.

A little respect goes a long way.

I don't *screw* with cops. If their lives are not being threatened, I
expect them to behave in a civil manner. If not, they need to be cut from
the force. We don't need ill-mannered bullyboys with badges and guns
running around.

Does anyone really care what your expectations are?

Somehow, I've managed to have nothing but positive experiences with
cops, some to the point where it seemed weird. When I first got my
handgun, I was on my way to the range, and I'd stopped at the bank to
deposit a check. I wasn't yet equipped with a belt stiff enough to
support the clunker of a gun I had at the time, so while fumbling for my
wallet, the belt sagged, and my jacket moved up enough to expose half
the gun. There's a tap on my shoulder, I turn around, and it's a cop
behind me in line. He points to the gun. I said "Jeez...I just got this
gun and blah blah blah". He didn't even ask for my permit. He took his
notepad out of his pocket, wrote down the name of a store that sells cop
accessories, and said "This is where I get my belts. They'll set you up
with something that works. Have a nice day." I left scratching my &
thinking "cop...bank....gun...what just happened here?" :-)

In other words: A cop see's a fat guy at a bank wearing a pinky ring
that doesn't know how to wear a concealed piece without it printing, and
for obvious reasons, see's no threat. Then sends the fat gun toting
moron to his friends store helping him out with a little business, and
getting a good laugh out of it at the same time.

1972: I'm cranking down route 81 south of Syracuse, doing close to 100
in a
bright yellow 1970 Cougar. Hair down past my shoulders. Along comes a
state trooper, and I figured "Great. I'm a dead man. These guys are
taught to kill hippies". I told him the truth: "This is the first day in
over a month when it's been dry & sunny instead of icy. I was just
stretchin' it out a little. And I was gonna slow down for that weird
curve up ahead". He says "You think 100 is just a little stretch?" Takes
my license, does his radio thing, comes back, looks in the car and asks
"Hurst shifter in a Cougar? Never saw that before. You put it in?" We
get into a brief discussion about it. Then, "Slow it down. Don't do that
on my highway." Leaves, gives me no ticket. WTF?

In other words: A cop pulls a fat hairbag wearing a pinky ring over in a
POS Couger topping out at 100 mph, and as he's getting ready to write
the ticket he notices the fat hairbag has screwed a Hurst shifter knob
onto a stock 4 spd shifter, Cop decides WTF if this guy is that much of
a poser then who cares if he wraps himself around a pole, and to heck
with the ticket, he probably wouldn't pay it anyway.

Actually, my worst experience was with a cop who bungled a burglary
investigation by being exquisitely stupid.

In other words: The fat guy that wears a pinky ring forgot to lock the
door, and instead of taking the blame like a real man would, puts it on
the cop ivestigating said case.

If he broke the law, he should be given a ticket. Calling a cop "Dude"
is nothing. The cop could have, and most likely was told to politely
ask him to refer to him as "officer". All the cop did was reinforce a
negative stereotype of cops, and the cop was definitely not a
responsible member of society. If I was a cop, I would be ashamed of
that guy. I am sure many are.

Me and tom have talk at length about that. Tom understands that I do
trust most staties. Also Tom knows that if his son stood around and
allowed activity such as this by his peers, then he "would" be, well,
you know... I have some pretty good friends who are cops too, and they
know how I feel, most of em' agree pretty much until I get agitated.
Unfortunately, the two best cops I ever knew are both passed, both
young, both of natural causes...

You need to let it go Scott and move on.

I haven't had much trouble with cops, and look at them as individuals

they've made some vows and wear a uniform (-:
I came up with this some years ago in a r.a.d. discussion about
traffic tickets. Went like this.
Tickets issuance is similar to Mendelian genetics, where dominance is
represented by assholeness, regression by politeness.
polite driver + polite cop = probably no ticket
asshole driver + polite cop = ticket
polite driver + asshole cop = ticket
asshole driver + asshole cop = ticket, maybe jail

Simplistic, but usually true in my experience, which is I'm always
polite, the cops are nearly always polite, and I hardly ever get a
ticket. Might be lucky too, which is never to be underestimated.

ps..The wheelchair cop should be fired. The skateboard cop
should be suspended a couple weeks and undergo "counseling."

I would not do that, but if someone else did, I would expect Tom's son
or any other cop to handle themselves in a professional manner. Their
superiors should DEMAND they handle themselves in a professional manner.

Most cops do.
