The only ones in the video that did the right thing were the kids
that kept
their mouths shut. The cop shouldn't have gotten physical. The kid
shouldn't
have mouthed off to the cop. It would have played out much
differently if
the kid showed respect for authority, even if feigned.
What? A person isn't allowed to voice their concerns over the cops
actions?

Oh, contraire!

The vid is on Youtube, and no doubt the cop probably got fired or
suspended and maybe even sued. The kid voiced his opinion and won.

i suppose my point is, that the situation was unnecessary and could
easily have been avoided. The kid probably didn't know btter, and the
cop should have known better.

bad deal all around.

The cop got suspended WITH PAY. I would expect a lawsuit soon. NO
matter how disrespectful the kid was the cop acted like a bigger child
than the kid.

Would you apportion the blame for this incident all on the cop or does
it
need to be spread around a little?

The kid should be cited for and if he broke a law, calling a cop "Dude"
is
not illegal. The cop should be held 100% responsible for his abuse of
power, totally losing control of his emotions and throwing down the kid
without any reason.

That's not what I asked. Sure, the cop should be held accountable for his
actions which were a bit over reactive. The little urchin needs to be
educated on becoming a responsible member of society. His training should
have started 12 years ago.- Hide quoted text -

Get real, what did the kid do? Call the cop "dude" while the cop was
threatening him? I hope you did not raise your kids to bully someone
and then beat them for not running scared...

A little Yes sir, No sir, I'm sorry sir would have diffused that situation
real quick. An attitude has a negative effect when dealing with cops. I am
sure you have learned that lesson by now.

I had another one day at the med center with my kid. I was there and
during the investigation the local took some kind of back handed cheap
shot at my "marital status" (as if my wife and I don't talk or
something). He had done it to impress a statey that was standing near.
He admitted being an ass and why he had done it in a phone call he
made to my wife the next day, I would not get on the phone, he had
punked me in front of my kid (and I just stood there and said "yes
sir") and I did not want to hear it from him.. I had know him for
nearly 20 years at the time...

Here, there was about a one year delay between the city banning skateboards
in certain places, and signs actually going up in those places. If the same
was true where that video was made, those kids may well have been honest
when they asked what they did wrong. That cop was out of control.

That attitude gets you exactly what the 12 year old skateboarder got.

Why screw with cops. A bad cop can set you up and it may end up being your
word against his in court...........guess who wins.

A little respect goes a long way.

I don't *screw* with cops. If their lives are not being threatened, I
expect them to behave in a civil manner. If not, they need to be cut
from the force. We don't need ill-mannered bullyboys with badges and
guns running around.

and then beat them for not running scared...

A little Yes sir, No sir, I'm sorry sir would have diffused that situation
real quick. An attitude has a negative effect when dealing with cops. I am
sure you have learned that lesson by now.

BINGO!

An *attitude* also has a negative effect in most aspects of life.- Hide quoted text -

An attitude is no reason to beat a kid up, even my kids know that they
can not fight over words....

Exactly, but you seem to have had nothing but bad experiences with cops.
I've got two brothers that were cops, both retired now, and I think they
were and are pretty good people.

It's a shame all your experiences have been as you describe them.

But, listen to JimH when he talks about 'attitude'. He knows a lot about it
and how it can affect your karma.

That attitude gets you exactly what the 12 year old skateboarder got.

Why screw with cops. *A bad cop can set you up and it may end up being your
word against his in court...........guess who wins.

A little respect goes a long way

Or like I say, don't listen to a cop when he tells you not to date his
friends daughter and end up with a felony on your record, let me tell
you, it's no way to start your life... Your word against his and he is
dirty cocaine whore...

I am guessing you know a cop or are close to a cop, retired cop or
something and you don't want to admit that that cop probably knows
pigs like this and has not the balls or honor to do something about
it, I can't fight with you on this one, I am out, again...
