You work with what is more predictable and possible. Absent a criminal
act, a horrific accident, or sudden onset of a deadly and fast-moving
disease, which I wouldn't wish on any of them, Roberts, Thomas, and
Alito likely will serve for decades more. The ones I mentioned are
closer to crossing the bar.

There's a decent chance the next POTUS will be able to replace three of
the aging six. That should be enough to tip the court back to the center.
