....reel.
Penn Reels has "updated" its line of reasonably priced sal****er spinning reels, and the fabulous 4300SS is no longer in production, though plenty of parts are available. The 4300SS has long been one of my favorite little reels. It's an almost perfect light salt-water reel, sturdy, lightweight, nicely manufactured, really good drag and bail. I had three in my "collection," but one was lost overboard last summer by one of my klutzy buddies, along with a whippy little "Ugly Stick" rod. Grrrrrr. Anyway, I happened to stop in at a West Marine store the other day and saw a few other reels in the line, also discontinued, but not yet sold out. No 4300's, though. The manager checked inventory at other stores and found a couple of 4300SS reels for me, and at closeout prices! I have at least 8 spools for these reels, loaded with various lines. This, along with the light rod, is my favorite rig for catching baitfish, and for catching smallies out on the Shenandoah, and also my favorite "travel" rig. Now, if you're not a light-tackle fisherperson, you probably think "seen one reel, seen 'em all," but I've tried a lot of light spinning reels over the years from a number of manufacturers, and I've liked the 4300SS best. And, of course, here's the opening for the usual a**holes of insult: Go for it________________________________________________ _________ __________________________________________________ ________________ __________________________________________________ ________________ (But don't expect me to read it.) |
