Is not the fools in the country, is the fact that the automotive industry is controlled by a very small group of people. And most are children of the founders. Lots of stock and no ability, still gets them on the Board of Directors. Couple that with a union that forces companies to pay people $65,000-$70,000 a year to do virtually nothing.... That was an eye opener when I first saw it on some news show. Might've been a Ford shop where a bunch of people were sitting around watching TV & reading, waiting for someone on the assembly line to call in sick or some such nonsense. |

Even worse - they get full benefits until they find a job comparable to what they were doing when they were laid off. It's astounding what the UAW has done to this country and when the definitive history of the Labor Movement is finally written, the UAW will be high on the list of causes of economic collapse of the auto industry. |

Not to defend the UAW but crummy and complacent management is more to blame in my opinion. |

Many of my winter neighbors are from Michigan. One of them does a really funny imitation of someone running an air powered screw gun on an assembly line while claiming to be highly skilled labor. It's really charming when well-off SOBs make fun of guys who have to work crap jobs to make ends meet. It's one of your more endearing qualities, Dwayne. -- George W. Hairy, you have so many endearing qualities we really wouldn't know where to start the list. I worked a few "crap jobs" in my youth and I sort of recall the pay being less than $60 to 70K, and we didn't run around screaming for "equity" or claiming to be skilled labor. You should try it some time, silver spoon boy. |
