My wife went out today to buy a new throw for our family room. She found
one she like but after she looked at the label she promptly put it
back.........."Made in China".

We have both made a commitment not to buy any goods made in China.

Almost every article about China mentions "excessive levels of lead paint"
on some toys. Since when is there ANY level of lead paint permissible for
objects that kids will almost certain gnaw on, as most little kids do?

You are going to have to put that "within reason" in there. Many items
just are no longer made in the USA by anybody, only made in China.
Matches are one, I may have read shoelaces too, or something like that
and many of the electrical components that we depend on. But I am with
you. You will find many items like that, or parts without, essential
products would not be available. China could shut us down in 2 months,
all they would have to do is turn all their supply ships around, our
society and infrastructure would immediately be effected.. It is sad
but true.

Good luck with that. Very little available at some of the major
retailers is *not* made in China.

You can find stuff *not* made in China if you are a careful shopper.
If I see something I want to buy, I look for country of manufacture. If
it says China, it goes back on the shelf.

A national boycott of all products made in China and all services
provided by workers in countries like India would be a good place to
start. If I have to call "tech support" for something and end up "ov er
there," I insist upon being transferred to a U.S. facility. I get one at
least half the time.

I'm not against foreign products. If a product or service comes from a
foreign country where the workers earn decent wages and aren't
exploited, I have no problem.

The last thing I would buy is an expensive boat made in China or in many
other low pay places on the Pacific Rim. That boat sells here for high
prices...I see no reason to enrich the manufacturer or importer when the
workers get paid dirt.

Thanks loads! You've just given me several places for toys for the
grandkids this Christmas. Vermont Wooden Toys has some great looking toys.
