And if I were to do so, the stuff I typically use in an apartment or rental house wouldn't be all that much fancier than what Harry is installing, only a little more durable to withstand careless use by tenants. Just couldn't pass up the opportunity to rattle his chain, particularly if the resident champion of unionism were found to be installing gabinetes hecho en Mexico. :-) I am very willing to accept Harry's explanation that the cabinets are shipped in bi-ligual packaging. Been to Home Depot lately? Most of the important signs are in English and Spanish. Makes sense, as a lot of the casual labor likely sent to HD to pick up a load of 2x4's or sheet rock may be more comfortable doing business in Spanish than in English. I'm sure that Harry's hickory cabinets were made in a union shop, down in whatever part of Dixie he claimed they originated from. |

Despite your liberal preaching's you are obviously nothing more than a racist and a bigot Chuck. Shame on you. |

JimH, I could not figure out what Chuck said that could possible be considered racist or bigoted. It is a fact of life that a large percentage of casual laborers and skilled construction workers are Hispanic, it is also a fact of life that a large percent of them do not speak English or are more comfortable speaking Spanish than English. That is the reason why Home Depot employee's bilingual employees and have signs in English and Spanish. Maybe you can explain why you thought his comments were racist or bigoted. Without an explanation it seems that you must have some real racial issues if you read Chuck's comments as racists or that Chuck represented himself as a bigot. |

Chuck, I was teasing also when I requested detailed info on delivery, photos of boxes as they are delivered and another photo of half installed cabinets. |

Shame on you. What happened to "Chuck doesn't attack JimH, JimH doesn't attack Chuck?" Been to Home Depot or spent any time around a construction site lately? Many of the workers are more comfortable speaking Spanish. That's not racism, that's an objective observation. And furthermore, it isn't bigotry, unless you consider English somehow "superior" to Spanish. Ear of the beholder? There are some very intelligent and expressive people speaking and writing nearly every language ever invented, certainly a long tradition of literary excellence in Spanish. There are some folks dumb as dog dung who speak and even attempt to write in English. English is a ******* tongue that has borrowed and corrupted from a mixture of (primarily romance) languages. Aside from the fact that the lexicon is typically double or triple the size of the languages from which English was assembled there is little that makes it "superior" to Spanish, French, Italian, Greek, or Cantonese. In fact, the extreme difficulty experienced by non-native speakers attempting to learn English can be considered something of a disadvantage. English is one of the "default" languages in many places around the globe. This is due as much to the sun never setting on the British Empire and the industrial/trade/tourism dominance of English speaking countries early in the 20th Century as it is to any actual superiority of the English language itself. A variety of verb forms and greater flexibility with regard to the order of words in a sentence allow Spanish speakers to express things in one or two words that would take an entire sentence to describe in English. Observing that an individual may be more comfortable speaking one language than another isn't racist or bigoted, although it might appear that way to somebody operating from the perspective that people unlike himself are somehow inferior. But congrats on your short burst of self discipline. You observed our informal cease fire longer than I would have thought you capable. For my part, I'll continue ignoring you unless first attacked (as in this thread). You are so not worth the bother, JimH. |

Don't like it...........tough. I am tired of the double standards displayed here by the folks (sheriffs) who claim to want to make the NG a kinder and gentler place yet do not abide to those same standards. Got it? I hope so. |

"Harry Krause" wrote in message ... Jesus, Chuck. Hire an editor. Why dump so many paragraphs when a short sentence will do. Oh, and of course, your post had nothing to do with boating. But at least you didn't tuck in one of your many commercial references. Time for Chuck to take his annual self imposed vacation from rec.boats. |

Find the imposter who posted, "I have stated my position on this, you stop attacking me and I will do the same".....or words to that exact effect. You will want to ask him to stop posting things under your handle. Will you explain why you think an observation that certain people may be more comfortable speaking one language than another is racist or bigoted? If I posted, "JimH is more comfortable speaking English than Spanish", would that be a racist comment? Why is the reverse statement racist about an individual who was born and raised in a Spanish-speaking society? It only sounds racist or bigoted to a person who is, him or herself, so bigoted that any person of different ethnicity is presumed to be inferior. You were bursting to get some name calling done, and you used a cheap excuse to do so. The fact that you are so obviously off base is probably not as important to you as gratifying your urge to call names and make crappy personal remarks. |
