You are referring maybe to the printing on the cabinet boxes. I didn't notice that. The cabinets are manufactured in Virginia. Many manufactured products these days are "wrapped" in packaging that describes the contents in several languages.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Good thing you're more discerning about boats than you are woodworking. Pine drawers with butt instead of dovetail joints, drawer suspension jammed into a plastic "hanger" against a backerboard of dubious ancestry, thinnest possible frame stock and drawer fronts, 1-2 thin coats of "finish". Nobody builds a boat down to the standards of your office furniture- not for several years now. At least you're stepping up a bit, however. Check out that old black desk! That thing must weigh a zillion pounds. I had no idea they made pressboard as thick as the top of that monster (see the hawse for your computer connections, etc). You really ought to be paying some attention to your roof. Nasty looking stain on the wall just to the left of the Casablanca poster. Looks like a defective hull (wall) to (roof) deck joint to me. Are you planning to extend the "uppers" over the couch and thereby hide the stain? |

Are you planning to extend the "uppers" over the couch and thereby hide the stain? If only you knew what you were talking about. Oh...the stain...that's where two colors meet, and where I did a drywall seam repair which isn't quite finished. No water. Once I finish the seam repair, another color will be applied over the white. Good eyes, though. The desk is an old steel monster, with a formica top. Served me well. I'm going to use it now as an electronics work table. It is very heavy. The new cabinet fronts and frames are solid hickory. I saw no reason to spend what I did in the kitchen...this is for a light-use kitchenette, and is more than enough for my purposes. You've really turned yourself into the snark of the newsgroup, Chuck. Consider yourself lucky I don't respond in kind. Don't you have another advertorial you can pimp here? It is a fact of life that a large percentage of casual laborers and skilled construction workers are Hispanic, it is also a fact of life that a large percent of them do not speak English or are more comfortable speaking Spanish than English. That is the reason why Home Depot employee's bilingual employees and have signs in English and Spanish. Maybe you can explain why you thought his comments were racist or bigoted. Without an explanation it seems that you must have some real racial issues if you read Chuck's comments as racists or that Chuck represented himself as a bigot. |

There are some very intelligent and expressive people speaking and writing nearly every language ever invented, certainly a long tradition of literary excellence in Spanish. There are some folks dumb as dog dung who speak and even attempt to write in English. English is a ******* tongue that has borrowed and corrupted from a mixture of (primarily romance) languages. Aside from the fact that the lexicon is typically double or triple the size of the languages from which English was assembled there is little that makes it "superior" to Spanish, French, Italian, Greek, or Cantonese. In fact, the extreme difficulty experienced by non-native speakers attempting to learn English can be considered something of a disadvantage. English is one of the "default" languages in many places around the globe. This is due as much to the sun never setting on the British Empire and the industrial/trade/tourism dominance of English speaking countries early in the 20th Century as it is to any actual superiority of the English language itself. A variety of verb forms and greater flexibility with regard to the order of words in a sentence allow Spanish speakers to express things in one or two words that would take an entire sentence to describe in English. Observing that an individual may be more comfortable speaking one language than another isn't racist or bigoted, although it might appear that way to somebody operating from the perspective that people unlike himself are somehow inferior. You will want to ask him to stop posting things under your handle. Will you explain why you think an observation that certain people may be more comfortable speaking one language than another is racist or bigoted? If I posted, "JimH is more comfortable speaking English than Spanish", would that be a racist comment? Why is the reverse statement racist about an individual who was born and raised in a Spanish-speaking society? It only sounds racist or bigoted to a person who is, him or herself, so bigoted that any person of different ethnicity is presumed to be inferior. You were bursting to get some name calling done, and you used a cheap excuse to do so. The fact that you are so obviously off base is probably not as important to you as gratifying your urge to call names and make crappy personal remarks. |

But congrats on your short burst of self discipline. You observed our informal cease fire longer than I would have thought you capable. For my part, I'll continue ignoring you unless first attacked (as in this thread). You are so not worth the bother, JimH. Jesus, Chuck. Hire an editor. Why dump so many paragraphs when a short sentence will do. Oh, and of course, your post had nothing to do with boating. But at least you didn't tuck in one of your many commercial references. Let's see, if Donnie weighs in to defend Jimmie's stupid comments, then the whole Hazeltone Trio will have made it's mark! |

Comprender? JimH, He is not a bigot, but you do have a severe reading comprehension problem and it seems you are a "closet bigot". Go back and reread his statement, he never said "most", he said "a lot" (which means the same thing as "many"). It appears that you are the bigot and got scared when he said "a lot". The truth of the matter, in most metropolitan areas Mexicans make up a large percent of the construction labor, both skilled and unskilled. So tell us why you feel so scared of Mexicans/Hispanics that you are freaking out this way. I personally use two Hispanics from Nicaragua to help me do yard work on my mothers mini farm, I find them very hard working and a pleasure to work with. One speaks English, the other guy can understand some English, but strictly speaks Spanish. You really should get to know some and stop jumping around looking like Chicken Little. |

No, but I am planning to redo four kitchens and five bathrooms before fall so stay tuned. Posting the photos of such projects is apparently consistent with the theme of a boating NG and will be of interest to all. :-) y I can just see you running a table saw. If I were contracting this job out, I wouldn't have said a peep. I'm also planning to do a patio this summer, masonry, of course. Will post progress photos... Please enlighten us, Harry. Of what use was a table saw in the installation of prefabricated cabinets? Today's your lucky day, crap-for-brains, because I had to tear down my desktop machine for a few days and am using my laptop, and I dumped the filters on that machine a few months ago while experimenting. Obviously, I need to set them up on the laptop so as to filter out you and the rest of the newsgroup scumsuckers. Let's see...table saw: end panels that need to be cut down to size. Trim pieces that need to be cut down to size. Countertop support pieces that need to be cut to the right lengths. Filler pieces that need to be trimmed down to the right width. Custom side boxing for refrigerator.y My electrician finished up today. I'm glad I got a pro for that part of the job. I'm also replacing a sliding patio door with a double "french" patio door, and I have to make some custom trim pieces for that job. Later, I'll be building a masonry patio, probably of stone. If you were brighter than a dimwit, I'd invite you over to watch and maybe carry some hod. What will you be doing this summer, John? Licking your golf balls? I am so pleased and honored that today is a 'no pretend' day. Went out on the boat today to see what the Rappahannock has to offer. Croaker are biting very well on bloodworms. Didn't try to find any stripers. Do you think you'll get any lobsta's this year? Yes, cutting trim pieces and shortening support pieces is *definitely* table saw work. Funny, I've helped renovate two kitchens now, and the most we ever used was a chop saw. Hope everything turned out OK! No surprise you'd use a chop saw on your chop jobs. Three of my end panels are eight feet tall. I'm sure you could chop your way to a perfect cut with your inadequate tools. Are you qualified to carry hod? You must have used some usable skill in your army years, aside from drinking. Harry, next time measure correctly when designing the kitchen. Then the spacers will be the correct size. |

JohnH, I have to correct you on this one, Harry did not defend JimH's comment, he just used it as an opportunity to attack the person Harry used to say was one of the few first class gentlemen in rec.boats, one that he would enjoy taking out on his boat any day of the week, and would like to meet up when in Seattle. The funny thing, Harry thought JimH, was lower than snail **** is now he is his best buddy. Ripley's believe it or not. Harry chimed in on an 'attack Chuck' post. He, therefore, qualifies. Snail **** is slower, but whale **** is lower. |
