I'm not really sure of your situation, but you might consult these
folk:

http://www.b-quiet.com/?googleads

I know there's an insulating material which is a fiber one one side and
a metalic sheathing on the other, which is used in many automotive
aplications for soundproffing, insulation, and the metal , I believe is
used as a flame retardent.

I wouldn't think it would be that difficult to come up with something
esasy and inexpensive you can use, though.

West marine has various stick on sound proofing materials. You want to use
somethign that is fire retardent so don't just go to the foam store.

Correct. I've seen some of the stuff which I think would be ideal and
it's the material used on some GM cars under the hood to reduce noise.
Its fiber on the bood side, and a metallic flame retardant material on
the engine side. One could probably get all they could stand at a
local bone yard for almost nothing.

It's been my observation that it gets brittle with age.

Could be, that is, unless you get it from a fresh wreck. But would
still beat fiber getting caught on anything it can. That is, if thats
the way one is going to go.

I invite you to check out our insulation at www.lobucrod.com. We are
also on EBay with over 800 positive feedbacks. Might be just what
you're looking for.
