Default My old Regal Sebring is running too well - only rec.boats can help me now!

Hi everyone,

Many years ago, I bought a 1989 Regal Sebring 195XL here in Stockholm,
Sweden which had been imported from the US. The boat, and its 3.0L
Mercruiser were both in terrible condition, however. Basically, I've
spent the last 7 years renovating the engine. The past few years,
things have been looking good - the engine is running smoothly and
reliably, and I'm able to enjoy the long scandinavian summer nights out
on the ocean.

The thing is this, though - the engine seems to running _too_ well. Or
rather, too fast. Full throttle means 5100 RPM for me, which I'm
starting to guess is a bit too much, given that the max RPM for that
engine is 4600-4800. My theory is this: the engine was getting so
****ty that the last owner decided to buy a propeller capable of
getting the boat on plane. This would also explain my (low) current top
speed of about 26 knots.

So I basically need a new propeller. My question is this: is there
anyone on the other side of the pond who has any idea of how I can find
out the original pitch of the propeller that this boat was delivered
with? Again, it's a 1989 Regal Sebring 195XL with a 3.0L Mercruiser.
I've tried contacting Regal to no avail.

Sincerely,

Carl Wettermark, Stockholm, Sweden.
