Default Replacing the Ring Gear on Ski Supreme 1982 I/O

Hi all,
I have an old 1982 Ski Supreme I/O with 350 Ford V8 255Hp LH engine. My
Ring gear is shot and I need to replace it. I bought the gear and found
a place where they will put it for me for $40. Now comes the big task
of pulling the engine out and removing the flywheel.

I plan on renting a 2 ton cherry picker to pull the engine out, but do
not know where to start. Is there a manual somewhere on the web? Is
this going to be VERY difficult to do?
Any words of wisdom and help are really appreciated.

Thank you.
Skipper

You only have to pull the engine forward enough to get the bell housing off.
Then pull the flywheel, and THEN CHECK if you have the proper ring gear.
The Ford 351 engine I had used a smaller flywheel, and the Ring gear was
from a 70's Mustang from what I remember. Count the teeth on the gear.
Change the starter solenoid while you are at it. That is what took out my
ring gear. Automatic engaging at high RPM's.

Thank you jamesgangnc and Calif Bill,
I really appreciate your advise.
That is what I was thinking too if I can replace it without pulling the
entire engine out, but was not sure if it is safe....

I checked clymers and they do Not have a manual for this year. Any
ither ideas where I can get more infro on how to start. I do not know
how to pull the engine mounths out. They look very tricky !!!

Skipper.

I would say, if you can not look at the engine mounts and see how to pull
them, the job may be beyond your expertise level.

I know a lot about engines, but never had to pull a boat engine out. SO
the mounts are something new to me....
