Default Johnson outboard control level function

cmdrdata wrote:
I am a newbie boater (bought a used bass boat last year). and have
some questions about the functions of the control lever and a primer
solenoid.

The outboard is a Johnson V6, 150 HP outboard, circa 1990

The boat has a side mounted shift lever with red buttons on the
thumbside

Trim & Tilt up & down... it appears you have bought this boat & never
have had it in the water or running, or even hooked up to a battery?

and another on the underside of the handle.

Neutral release / Forward-Reverse Lock-out... it appears you have bought
this boat & never have even sat in it & worked the shifter, or pretended
to be flying down the lake?

What are the
functions of these buttons?

On the engine, there is this little cyclindrical black unit, about 2-3"
long, maybe 1-2 " dia, with a red lever. However, it has no marking
which way it is supposed to be set. Can anyone here shed a light on how
to set his lever?

Again... it appears you have bought this boat & never have had it in the
water or running, or even hooked up to a battery? How did you even find
the primer or know what it is? What position did you find it in? What
made you think it had to be moved or adjusted at all in the first place?
What did the previous owner tell you?

Given this info, can someone help me give a step by step procedure on
how to start the engine?
(I have a garden hose attachment for starting the engine out of the
water)

You will have to get someone to walk you through it in person, there are
just too many things to miss and really mess up an otherwise good
engine. For example, the "garden hose attachment for starting the
engine out of the water" should not be used by a novice who cannot even
identify or use the items you asked about above.

As a matter of fact, a 150 HP Bass Boat should not be used by a novice
who cannot even identify or use the items you asked about above. Please
take a Power Squadron or Coast Guard boating course before leaving the
dock, and get an experienced outboarder to assist you with the
mechanical aspects

TIA for your help.

I am such a sucker. Did I really spend... this much time... on... ...a
....troll...?
