Sorry southerners, but this poll is for northern boaters only. Answer these questions: 1. Is your boat in the water and/or ready to go? More or less ready to go. Just need to drop the mast from its slightly suspended position to snug up against the cabin for travel. Probably will go in the water next week. Would do it this weekend but our favourite extra hand is traveling to Florida for a convention. We will either enlist less experienced help or wait till he gets back. 2. How much time did you spend prepping your boat for launch? A few hours 3. What exactly did you do/have done to the boat to prep it? remove tarp. Remove the frame that supports the tarp when it is piled with 10 feet of snow. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. (just kidding about the repeat part) Get outboard serviced/checked out Last year we stripped and refinished the teak - that took a few days. 4. Did you do it yourself or contract it out? The outboard is done by professional types. Anything else is DIY. 5. What size is your boat? 21' Sirius sailboat. Stella |

Mine lives on a trailer but yes, I have been out riding it for I think five weekends now, started the season on Apr. 2nd with a figure-eight around Staten Island and Manhattan; rides have included an overnight trip up the Hudson River and an afternoon swing around Fire Island just this past weekend. 2. How much time did you spend prepping your boat for launch? 3. What exactly did you do/have done to the boat to prep it? 4. Did you do it yourself or contract it out? Took it to the local dealership for their spring conditioning service, they did a good job and provided good value on winterizing it last winter. I guess for spring prep they check the condition of the battery and that things are properly lubed and/or tightened. Up to about 160 trouble-free hours on the Yamaha four-stroke now at the beginning of its second season. 5. What size is your boat? 11 feet! richforman |

All the time, on the way on our many day rides from the North shore of Long Island up the Hudson River. (Traditionally, we used to launch for those rides from Cold Spring Harbor, but recently my buddy has turned me on to the ramp on the west shore of Hempstead Harbor, Bar Beach I think it's called, that is worth the long extra drive in the car to get to, because of how much closer it is to the Hudson and back and the end of the day....in the late-afternoon chop that's usually the L.I. Sound at the end of the riding day, it's nice to be coming under the Throg's Neck, look at my handlebar-mounted gps and see there's only 6 miles back to the launch spot instead of the 20 I used to see at that point.) Another early season ride we've already done was from Orient Point to the Connectut River and up that for maybe 40 miles and back....so it's been a great start, we've already covered lots of ground and a bunch of different places just in this "pre-season" part of the year. Now I'm planning a second annual trip with my wife to go riding in the Thousand Islands (St. Lawrence river) this summer, had said I couldn't afford it this year but I'm finding if I just cut it shorter by a couple days and stay in much cheaper Clayton rather than the much-fancier Riverview hotel/marina in Alex. Bay that we stayed at for a week last year....I can swing it. richforman |

Just don't be terrorizing the Gananoque, Ontario area August 04-06. That's when the Sandpiper 565 Rendezvous takes place. No, I don't have a SeaDoo. And I promise I've never terrorized anyone! Here, take a look at our online photo album of pics my wife took from the back seat of our 'ski last summer and our joint narrative, let me know if it looks or sounds like any kind of terrorizing was on our itinerary. http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLan...omshare& Ux=1 (I think you have to open an account to view the photos on Kodak easy share but it's free) Mostly took pictures of lighthouses, swam, toured castles, beached and picnicked on the various state parks in the area, and just cruised around and enjoyed the scenery and the company of all our fellow boaters and water-lovers, we covered from Tibbets Point to at least Gitchiegoomie Bay (sp?) I think it was. What is that event that you mention, is it sailboats? We'll be up there about two weeks after that, sorry I guess we'll miss you this time. One difference, last year I forgot my passport so we didn't try to dock or land in Canada, this time I'll make sure to bring it. richforman |
