What is the definition of an "assualt rifle?" You would need to ask our Chief of Police what he had in mind when he used the term. My guess is that anything with a 30 round magazine is considered an assault weapon. So, a BB gun with a tubular magazine that can hold 40 or 50 projectiles is an assualt weapon? I'm sure they come in real handy when stalking deer. Depends upon whether you just want to wound the deer or ensure the deer is killed. |

Depends upon whether you just want to wound the deer or ensure the deer is killed. I don't really give a damn how many rounds someone carries in one magazine. But, I know a family of real hunters. Grandfather, three sons, 4 grandkids. None of them carry rifles whose mags hold more than 3-5 rounds, and they usually need just two shots to do the job. I suppose these people are unusually skilled, though. Maybe. Around 1972, I was having lunch at the Roscoe Diner, on route 17 in the Catskills, when one of a group of knucklehead hunters blew out the window of a NY State trooper's car with his shotgun. The trooper just shook his head, put down his coffee, looked at the waitress and said "They're back..." It was the first day of hunting season, and all the beginners from NYC were in the area. Maybe those are the idiot hunters you're thinking of when you say 30 rounds is handy to have. What the hell was the guy in the parking lot doing with buckshot in the gun during deer season, when slugs are the correct load? (Never mind that the gun shouldn't have been loaded to start with). Or, the local guy who, last November, blew his kneecap to bits while loading his dead deer into his pickup. |

Purposeful ignorance doesn't get you anywhere Bertie. 30 rounds of ammunition, wherein ANY SINGLE ROUND is enough to kill a human being (for this is what those guns are designed to do) should be considered an assault weapon. "Should be" doesn't mean anything. I'm sure they come in real handy when stalking deer. Depends upon whether you just want to wound the deer or ensure the deer is killed. Oh for ****'s sake Bertie. You need an AK to kill a deer, a moose, a bear? M60 would be my choice if I wanted to get the animal down and dead. I don't want to have to track the critter through the woods. Aren't there far better weapons available for the purpose? Yes there are. |
