I start my computer every morning by retarding the spark and kneeling

That works. Now, looking forward to the work in progress pics.

Neat boat, BTW. Understand your desire to refurbish and keep.

AHA!!!
That one worked. Thanks very much Chuck.
How about some engine room photos? After all, I've showed
mine. I'm actually interested in how your heater is mounted.

Looks like your leaks have been worse than ours. We have to
heavily varnish the top of the pilothouse door slide or
water runs around under the fiberglass 'lip' of the
pilothouse coach-roof.

My wife wants to know about your stern platform. Where can I
get one like that?

Heh

That's a shame, I have been checking into
"alt.binaries.pictures.tall-ships" where some people have
posted amazing photos of all kinds of boats & ships from
clipper ships to battleships to modern RO-RO and hi speed
ferries. Plus lighthouses.

I'd post some photos if I knew how or where to go about it.
If you have a digital camera, you can use yahoo's free picture service or
kodak's. Upload the pictures to their website, then post the link. It
comes in the form of a slide show.

Here's an example....

Chuck, I couldn't get there. Could you try the tiny url bit? Or, post them
on alt.binaries.pictures.sports.ocean. Don't let the professional quality
stuff posted by Tom, RCE, et al, intimidate you! :)

Chuck,

Your boat is one that anyone would be proud to own. From what I could
tell you were highlighting that fact that your brightwork needs to be
restored, and some minor leaks need caulking/patching.

Do you plan on doing this work yourself? If so exactly, what do you
plan on doing?

I will see if I can find some photos from my heater articles from 2004.
The boat is 90 miles away, and I'll be visiting once every 10 days or
so to monitor progress.

As you will know *exactly* what I'm talking about--- We put the Webasto
diesel furnace athwartship, just forward of the port fuel tank. The
exhaust went through a new fitting under the port pilothouse door. We
mounted the furnace "sideways" so we could get an initial straight run
of several feet before there was a bend or other obstruction as that
helps the furnace "breathe" efficiently. Combustion air intake is
roughly 70% outside air, (gathered from a funnel on the foredeck) and
30% inside air (gathered from a fitting atop the fixture in the port
forequarter of the main cabin- where the distribution box is located).
I put an outlet through the bulkhead below the companionway steps to
the forward cabin, a second outlet in the forward half of the dinette
joinery to heat the main cabin, and carried the final outlet to the aft
bulkhead of the engineroom to service the master stateroom.

She must be kidding. That platform consists of a couple of 3X10 planks
fastened to
some stainless support brackets, and topped with some mystery material
covered with non-skid.

Reggie,

If you follow the link at the head of the thread, you'll find a
complete description of the work that is going to be done as well as
the name of the firm that is doing it. Due to "spam" senstivities, I
didn't post the original draft directly to rec.boats. She is ready,
more than ready, for new paint and with the leaks fixed, the brightwork
restored, and the interior blemishes corrected she will be even nicer
than the day I found her (when she was already about 10 years old). :-)

I can't wait either. :-)

If you get up this way to visit your brothers, give me a shout and I'll
take you and your family out on a private "tour boat" cruise of the
Seattle waterfront.

HA! Ours is 150 miles away and we go every weekend.

As you will know *exactly* what I'm talking about--- We put the Webasto
diesel furnace athwartship, just forward of the port fuel tank.

A good spot, but I couldn't put ours there because that's
where the batteries are.

... The

mounted the furnace "sideways" so we could get an initial straight run
of several feet before there was a bend or other obstruction as that

Yes, very much so.
Putting in the exhaust was one of the biggest problems for
us. I pondered many possible ways to set the system up,
originally I wanted to put the thing on the corresponding
spot to yours on the stb side, but there is an air
conditioner & some other stuff in the way. To get the
exhaust mounted as yours is (a good way to do it, seems
like) I would have had to move the fuel fill connection &
hose for the stb tank. In retrospect, that probably would
have been easier.

Ours ended up mounted on the aft bulkhead of the engine
room, with the exhaust routed out the aft cabin roof. It's a
little bit too long, the furnace makes soot when it first
fires up.

... Combustion air intake is
roughly 70% outside air, (gathered from a funnel on the foredeck) and
30% inside air (gathered from a fitting atop the fixture in the port
forequarter of the main cabin- where the distribution box is located).

Does the head compartment get nice & toasty? I put a 7K BTU
heater in there, one of the reasons we picked a hydronic system.

I have never been able to understand why people don't have
heaters in their cruising boats.

My wife wants to know about your stern platform. Where can I
get one like that?

She must be kidding. That platform consists of a couple of 3X10 planks

I thought it looked pretty good but I'll take another look
at the pics. I'm trying to figure out a stern platform for
ours that looks like it belongs on the boat, most bolt-on
ones look like they belong on a speedboat (or a kiddy
jungle-gym).
