Default Gas for the MerCruiser

I've been boating for years and use regular gas most times. Sometimes I've
gotten premium by accident and didn't notice any different. I do use STP oil
treatment in my boat-adding it every time I change oil. Somewhere I read it
makes the oil stick to bearings etc. better and, since my boat sits for
periods without any use, I figure any longer lasting protection will prevent
wear when initially starting after these periods of inactivity.
You really need to check your bearings every year by pulling off the wheels
and hubs and physically examining the axles and the actual bearings, then
repack with good wheel bearing grease. Check again if you plan a long trip
with the trailer. Bob

Hello all,

I am new to boating and also this newsgroup. I just purchased a 18 foot

Sea
Ray Sport boat with a 3.0 L Alpha I MerCruiser I/O engine. Can anyone

tell
me what grade of gas I should use? The suggested one in the owner manual
says at least with a octane level of 87. People are telling me difference
things, some say just to use regular, some say to use premium. Should I

add
gas treatment into the gas tank too.

Another question is my boat trailer. How do I know its time to add

bearing
grease into the bearings?

Another recommendation is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

David
