Default OT--why argue over the word "Grecian"?

Oh? Then you agree that George W. Bush Jr. is a moron for using it that

way?

Some people who do not speak well in front of TV cameras or large audiences,
are terrific speakers in smaller discussion groups, at social functions, and
in one-on-one dialogue. I believe this describes Bush. Go look at what
some of the 9/11 panel members (including the partisan ben-Veniste) had to
say about Bush's performance before their committee.

So to answer your question: no I don't think Bush is a moron for having
misspoke.

Oh no...now we're back to THAT rationalization again? If speaking makes him
nervous, I don't want to find out what happens if he ever has to decide
whether to push the big red button.

OK, but that doesn't make it fact.

My own belief is that incoherent speech or writing indicates incoherent
thought. Not fact either.

Uh huh. And do you think that GWB went in front of that committee and
spoke his mind, with no prep and no rehearsing?

If it was just misusing a word now and then, I'd agree. But he rambles
like a moron and misuses words constantly. He's actually funnier than
the people who mimic him... or at least, he would be if it weren't so
scary that he is actually the President.

BTW thanks for letting me make this point. Good work, comrade!

There was grumbling among committee members because Bush told them he'd give
them just an hour of his time. I translated that to mean that an hour is as
much of an attention span as he could muster.

Last week, he spewed some nonsense about how if we'd drilled for oil in
Alaska in the early to mid 1990s, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in today.
That was the best he could come up with as a solution to our oil dependency.
Fortunately, NPR followed Bush's wisdom with some facts presented by oil
experts, who explained how wrong the knucklehead was.

That's NPR for you. They conveniently left out where Bush's proposal calls
for half of the money derived from oil lease sales in Alaska to be spent on
research and development of alternative energy means.

Bush ties alternative energy research to Arctic drilling money

RENO, Nev. (AP) - President Bush's new budget anticipates $2.4 billion in
oil lease sales in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by 2005, with half
the money to be spent to research solar, wind, geothermal and other
alternative energy, an assistant secretary said Friday.

Did the rest of your article mention that 70% of such oil leases have
produced nothing over the past 20 years, and that the ones which *do*
produce are only providing about 3% of our needs?

My point is that your boy needs to come up with a REAL vision, one which
doesn't involve wasting time looking for oil. He has no such vision.

Did any of the last 4 or 5 Presidents? Clinton had 8 years and we're more
reliant on oil today than when he took office.

If we had followed Carter's initiatives we might now be energy
independent. Instead, over the past 25 years we have burned up @25% of
the worlds total oil reserves.

I don't buy that. History has shown that some of the most brilliant people
were very poor speakers.

Of course, it's natural to assume that people who mangle words when speaking
publicly are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Afterall, they don't
exactly sound "smart" when they're butchering their native language.

I think the only way to know is to spend time with a person talking
one-on-one on a personal level. That's why Bush is so effective when he's
meeting with the other World leaders in person.

It is the same mentality that assumes stutters are stupid.

I had to do speech theraphy when I was young......I was scoring off the
charts on standardized tests, but teachers could barely understand
me.....apprently I was thinking to fast and my mouth could not keep up :-)
