wrote: Or not. ----------------------- Sean Penn's rescue bid sinks From correspondents in New Orleans 05sep05 EFFORTS by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak. Penn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina's flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch. The actor, known for his political activism, was seen wearing what appeared to be a white flak jacket and frantically bailing water out of the sinking vessel with a red plastic cup. When the boat's motor failed to start, those aboard were forced to use paddles to propel themselves down the flooded New Orleans street. Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: "Whatever I can do to help." With the boat loaded with members of Penn's entourage, including a personal photographer, one bystander taunted the actor: "How are you going to get any people in that thing?" ----------------------- I'm pretty sure that the Presidential Administration must be somehow responsible for not putting the drain plug into Penn's boat and putting all those press aides and photographers in the boat just to make him look bad. Penn's trying to become the new Geraldo Rivera! I wonder if he had someone standing by with a fan blowing his hair. -- John H "All decisions are the result of binary thinking." |

Sean Penn's rescue bid sinks

Yeah, President Bush should make boating licenses mandatory, with jail time for anybody that forgets their plug... especially if they are known for anti-Bush politics. Actually, my take on this is that anybody who is not skilled & knowledgeable in boats should keep out of the way. Taking it one step further: one very good reason for developing real skills is that at some point in your boating career, the odds are high you will be in a position to rescue somebody. Not leaving things to chance, Penn brought his own personal photographer. If this wasn't enough, I'm sure he let the press know of his heroic effort to "Save the Children" (was he going to separate them from their families, or only save those families which had children with them?). -Raf -- Misifus- Rafael Seibert http://www.ralphandsue.com |
