Default 1150 Merc starts then quits

More likely the switchbox than the coil.

I have them all - 10 times over.

Assuming you clean the carbs and it STILL won't run. Then you need to

think
about electrical issues.

I haven't cleaned the carb's yet but am seriously considering the coil.

I
can get it to run for about 10 - 15 seconds from dead cold using the choke
and throttle as usual. After that I can get it to fire for one or two
seconds each time I use the starter, choke stalls it as it normaly would.

If
I let it sit for a few minutes it will run for longer once restarted. If I
just keep trying to restart it it basicaly fires a few times and quits.
Priming with the bulb doesn't help. Sometimes I think I can hear it

backfire
out the exhaust, not the intake. I've checked the spark while it's running
and it seems to change from strong to weak to strong on the plug wire I'm
watching. I think maybe the coil is shorting once it warms up. Anyone
experience this kind of coil failure before?
