Default Got my little runabout today ;-)

Subject to favorable survey and engine compression check: Today we put a
deposit down on a 1997 20 foot Glastron 209GS with trailer, 4.3L Volvo. 45
mph reported top end. Immaculate inside and out. Bimini, cockpit and
mooring covers. Got it for less than NADA average retail.

Needs: Depth sounder, porta-potty, AM/FM/CD (replacing the unit old
cassette unit already in the boat).

Pics:

http://tinyurl.com/bq4mb

http://tinyurl.com/abnwu

http://tinyurl.com/8x7bg

I will arrange for the surveys next week and finalize the deal (hopefully)
by the end of the week. ;-)

Looks decent enough.

That sure looks like a flat bottom, with some "negative deadrise" just
inside the innermost strakes or chines. Should plane very well, but you
aren't planning to do a lot of rough water boating, I assume?

What's with the big splotch of yellow paint at the sheer line, port
side, near the forward quarter cleat? Just something in the computer
imaging, an unfinished repair, or a kid with a spray can?

If it meets your needs (most important consideration) and if it surveys
well, congrats. :-)

Thanks Chuck.

The boat will be used for calm water use only ( 3 footers on Lake Erie).
We plan to use it on the Lake or in the Bay for tubing, wakeboarding and
generally traveling to beaches for swimming. It is just a runabout to have
some fun with on nice days. Although we plan to dock it we can always put
it back on the trailer and tow it to the Bay (when the Lake is rough the Bay
is normally calm).

The yellow splotch on the forward section of the port picture is a photoshop
paintjob of the OH numbers....too many folks here who would love that sort
of personal information. ;-)

This boat met our every expectation, including size, accommodations (we
needed a cuddy for my wife to do personal business in), condition, weight
(for limited towing) and price. I have been looking for several months and
have found nothing but crap thus far. I had to jump on this one. ;-)

We will be purchasing something in the 25 foot range in 5 years or so when
we purchase our retirement house on the water. Until then this little
runabout is perfect for us. Our kids will be taking Power Squadron classes
over the winter and based on training and instruction I gave them when we
had our 32 footer they will be able to take it out to have fun on the water
with their friends next summer.

Had the same question, but figured he smudged out the old registration number.
Be interesting if that wasn't the reason!

Nice looking boat. I didn't like the carpet on the floors though.

Yep...red carpet would not be my choice. The carpeting is original.
However, this is not a fishing boat....just a little runabout for tubing,
wakeboarding, skiing and running around in on calm waters.

Great looking boat.

Just a suggestion for your new toys... for $85 you can get a humminbird
Piranha Max 15 DF that reads to 600 ft. I have one on my tender and on
my dingy and they are great. I can read to 300 ft going 28 kts and it
will read to the full 600 ft when going slower. I wonder why I even have
the two 2000 ft units on the big boat.
Also, my favorite boat stereo is the West Marine brand (3 yr warranty)
MP3/CD/AM/FM. I load up 12 "albums" (showing my age)on one MP3 CD-rom
and you never have to change the CD all day. It also comes with a
remote (That I put in a ziplock and it works fine) and you never have to
touch the unit with wet hands. I have one of these in each boat and I
love them.

Have fun and stay safe..

Thanks Ed and Karen! :-)

I may look into that Hummingbird unit. A stand alone depth sounder will
cost me the same money and I would not get surface temperature and bottom
conditions. The boat is really not set up for fishing, but the Hummingbird
also gives me a fishfinder.

We are in fresh water an I really don't need a marinized stereo. I can
probably hook up with a nice car unit for under $200.

The boat does not have a compass and we plan only near shore boating.
However I would like to have some navigation electronics aboard.

Any suggestion for a low priced hand held or fixed mount (with internal
antenna) GPS?

It looks like my Christmas and birthday wish lists are growing. ;-)

Thanks all for the words of good luck on this boat purchase. I have a
survey (with engine compression test) set for Wednesday morning.
