Default HELP! Evinrude 48 SPL

I have a 1994 Evinrude 48 SPL that will not accelerate. It idles fine but
when I accelerate it just plows through the water and want rev up. I have
replaced the plugs and checked the wires but it does not seem to help. Also
the lower unit seems to be leaking gear oil at a fairly fast rate. Rear
seal? Can I replace myself? Any help would be most appreciated as I have a 9
year old son who is wearing me out about going fishing!

Thank you for any help in advance, it is most appreciated!!!

Default HELP! Evinrude 48 SPL

If it idles and wont rev up you need to check a few things.

Make sure the fuel line has no leaks and the primer bulb is pumping up hard.

Make sure the fuel tank is vented.

Check/replace the fuel pump diaphram.

If the motor sat a long time you could need to have the carbs rebuilt... idling
with no power is usually a sign the carbs are gummed up and will have to be
rebuilt.

The seal is fairly easy if you know what your doing... get a service manual.
