JimH,
I thought you might want to read some of the Presbyterian Church's thoughts
concerning Islam and Muslims.
http://www.pcusa.org/pcnews/2004/04125.htm

http://www.pcusa.org/september11/worship/islam.htm

http://www.pcusa.org/listeningproject/

http://www.pcusa.org/pcusa/wmd/eir/muslim.htm

From the Presbyterian Church of the United States.

Support the search to promote understanding.

a.. Get to know and become friends with Muslim neighbors. Plan reciprocal
visits, as appropriate.
b.. Identify and counteract prejudicial and abusive behavior toward
Muslims in your community and our society.
c.. Be sensitive to stereotypical characterizations of Islam and Muslims.
d.. Consider questions arising from key dialogue issues facing Christians
and Muslims.
e.. Study about Islam.
Support the search for cooperation.

a.. Promote relationships and dialogue with Muslims, giving attention to
practical, theological, and historical dimensions.
b.. Identify common concerns with Muslims. Explore ways to address
concerns cooperatively and to engage in joint efforts.
c.. Recognize that Muslims' perceptions of the United States' role in the
Islamic world often affect their response to Christians.
d.. Work together with Muslims for world peace and social justice.
e.. As possible, work with Muslims and Jews to find common ethical grounds
within our three Abrahamic communities that enable solidarity for justice,
peace, and the sustainability of creation.
Support the search for faithful witness.

a.. Affirm continuation of the long Presbyterian history of witness in
word and deed among Muslims.
b.. Participate in considering appropriate forms of Christian witness for
our time.
c.. Work for full religious freedom (including the right to practice the
faith of one's choice) and for equality of citizenship for all persons in
their societies -- whether Muslims or Christians or others, whether in the
U.S. or elsewhere.
d.. Identify the political use of religion for purposes of power and
oppression.
e.. Pray for partner churches in predominantly Muslim areas.
f.. Work through ecumenical and interfaith channels and organizations
whenever possible

Today humanity is being challenged. Unthinkable atrocities

us.
The

children.
Every
day there are bombings, every day innocent people are
targeted
and
murdered.
It seems as if we are helpless. But we are not!

The ancient Chinese sage Sun Zi said, "Know your enemy and
you
won't

doomed.

Terrorism is not an ideology, it is a tool; but the
terrorists
kill
for
an
ideology. They call that ideology Islam.

The entire world, both Muslims and non-Muslims claim that
the
terrorists
have hijacked "the religion of peace" and Islam does not
condone
violence.

Who is right? Do the terrorists understand Islam better, or
do
those
who
decry them? The answer to this question is the key to our
victory,
and
failure to find that key will result in our loss and death
will
be
upon
us.
The key is in the Quran and the history of Islam.

Those of us, who know Islam, know that the understanding of
the
terrorists
of Islam is correct. They are doing nothing that their
prophet
did
not
do
and did not encourage his followers to do. Murder, rape,
assassination,
beheading, massacre and sacrilege of the dead "to delight

him
and
were
observed by Muslims throughout their history.

If truth has ever mattered, it matters most now! This is the

we
have to call a spade a spade. This is the time that we have
to
find

Islam.
The

We are a group of ex-Muslims who have seen the face of the

be,
only
truth

obstinacy?
How
many
more
innocent lives should be lost before YOU open your eyes? A
nuclear
disaster
is upon us. This will happen. It is not a question of "if"
but
"when".
Oblivious of that, the world is digging its head deeper in
the
sand.

We urge the Muslims to leave Islam. Stop with excuses,
justifications
and
rationalizations. Stop dividing mankind into "us" vs. "them"
and
Muslims
vs.
Kafirs. We are One people, One mankind! Muhammad was not a
messenger
of
God.
It is time that we end this insanity and face the truth. The
terrorists
take
their moral support and the validation for their actions
from
you.
Your
very
adherence to their cult of death is a nod of approval for
their

We also urge the non-Muslims to stop being politically
correct
lest
they
hurt the sensitivities of the Muslims. To Hell with their
sensitivities!
Let
us save their lives, and the lives of millions of innocent

Millions, if not billions of lives will be lost if we do
nothing.
Time

Shove this hateful crap someplace.

The "terrorists" represent Islam just about the same way that
the
Ku
Klux Klan
represents Christianity. "Kill an infidel for Allah" rings
just
as
hollow as "Lynch a ****** for Christ". Both are sick and
hateful
corruptions.

Bull. Why do you think terrorists are strapping bombs to their
bodies
and
killing innocent people Chuck?

It is indeed being done for their Allah.

I'm certain that you must be correct. How could my poorly
expressed
point hope to withstand your concise and shattering counter
argument,
("Bull"!)?

Unlike you I don't need to write an essay to express a thought or
opinion.

So answer the question.....why do you think terrorists are
strapping
bombs
to their bodies and killing innocent people?

I think that the desperate, the hungry, the poor, the ignorant,
zealots
of any persuaion, and the hateful can be easily manipulated by
people
professing any number of justifications.

The Islamic "terrorists" are no more motivated by true Islam than
the
KKK is motivated by true Christianity, (or than the anti-semitism
of
Nazi Germany and the purity of the Aryan "race" was justified by
Christianity).

The party spreading this filth calls upon all Muslims to abandon
their
faith due to the actions of some terrorist criminals. Assuming you
are
a Christian, will you soon be abandoning your faith due to the
terrorist actions of the Ku Klux Klan, or is it possible to
repudiate
the Klan without repudiating Christianity?

Would you feel that Black, Jewish, and Catholic Americans were well
justified if they declared war on all WASPS due to the criminal
terrorist activities of splinter groups professing protestant
Christianity in the US? If not, why do we now hear so many
defending
these calls for wars to "stamp out Islam" in response to the
criminal
terrorist activities of an extremist minority?

"Inside the mind of an Iraqi Suicide Bomber"

Time Magazine

"While he waits, he spends much of his time rehearsing that last
prayer.
"First I will ask Allah to bless my mission with a high rate of
casualties
among the Americans," he says, speaking softly in a matter-of-fact
monotone,
as if dictating a shopping list. "Then I will ask him to purify my
soul
so I
am fit to see him, and I will ask to see my mujahedin brothers who
are
already with him." He pauses to run the list through his mind again,
then
resumes: "The most important thing is that he should let me kill many
Americans."

So?

And you busted my balls about my previous "bull" comment?

How absolutely funny.

"Who, me?"....eh?

mouth or keyboard in gear.

Works like this, JimH

1. You offered a quote from a Muslim terrorist, calling upon Allah, as
proof that Islam is a violent religion and all Muslims believe they
should rise up against the west.

Really. My quote was proof that "Islam is a violent religion and all
Muslims believe they should rise up against the west"?

Hitting the bottle again Chuckie? It sounds like it.

I am getting a bit tired of the way you misrepresent and spin what I
*actually* said. This is another of your MO's now, besides the "who,
me?" position you normally take when nailed on something.

The bull comment was in response to your comment of :

"Kill an infidel for Allah" rings just as hollow as "Lynch a ****** for
Christ". Both are sick and hateful corruptions."

I offered a quote from an actual terrorist suicide bomber who made it
clear his main reason was for seeing Allah.

It is all about Allah for them.

So yes, bull. I am tired of playing your little game Chuckles.

Let me know when you will finally stop the lies and spins.....maybe then
we can have an honest discussion.

Advice you should follow Chuck.

Some more information from you, again straight from the horses mouth:

==========================================
In what sense were the World Trade Centre bombers members of Islam? This
question has been sidelined by many Western analysts impatient with the
niceties of theology; but it may be the key to understanding the recent
attacks, and assessing the long-term prospects for peace in the Muslim
world.
Certainly, neither bin Laden nor his principal associate, Ayman al-Zawahiri,
are graduates of Islamic universities or seminaries. And so their
proclamations ignore 14 centuries of Muslim scholarship, and instead take
the form of lists of anti-American grievances and of Koranic quotations
referring to early Muslim wars against Arab idolators. These are followed by
the conclusion that all Americans, civilian and military, are to be wiped
off the face of the Earth.

This sort of radical move leads to liberal re-readings of the Koran, as in
the case of the South African theologian Farid Esack, who has horrified
traditionalists by advocating homosexual rights among Muslims.
Much more commonly, however, it allows young men whose anger has been
aroused by American policy in the Middle East to ignore the scholarly
consensus about the meaning of the Koran, and read their own frustrations
into the text. Another result of this rejection of traditional Islam has
been the notion that political power should be in the hands of men of
religion.

http://www.islamfortoday.com/murad04.htm
==========================================

The fact is, although being extremists, the terrorists are indeed Muslims
and followers of Islamic teachings (as they interpret them).

Jim, your support of the original essay posted by 'rebel' seemed to indicate
agreement with its arguments. In the essay, the phrase, "Defeat Islam and stop
terrorism" was used to summarize the position of the author.

Note that the author didn't say, "Defeat Muslim extremists and stop terrorism."
He (or she) referred to 'Islam' (all Muslims) just as a reference to
'Catholicism' would refer to all Catholics.

Perhaps this is the source of the confusion between what you really think and
what it 'appeared' that you really think!

terrorism" was used to summarize the position of the author.

Note that the author didn't say, "Defeat Muslim extremists and stop
terrorism."
He (or she) referred to 'Islam' (all Muslims) just as a reference to
'Catholicism' would refer to all Catholics.

Perhaps this is the source of the confusion between what you really think
and
what it 'appeared' that you really think!

I posted that only to show that the terrorists are indeed Muslims and
followers of Islam.....and in an extreme way. The article clearly pointed
that out.

I did not post it to show that all Muslims and followers of Islam are
terrorists...the article clearly shows that not to be the case.

There is no confusion John, other than perhaps on your end.

Understand that I never believed all Muslims are terrorists, nor that all
followers of Islamic faith are terrorists.

As I told Chuck, the terrorists are Muslims and followers of Islam....but
in
an extreme and warped way.

It is time for the Muslim population to weed out the bad apples.

Jim, your support of the original essay posted by 'rebel' seemed to

Perhaps we're talking about different articles. I was referring to the initial
post which was against *all* Muslims.
