in and drop it off for service saving some postage and insurance.

I walked into the facility and the receptionist took my information,
got on the horn and in less than five minutes, a technician appeared.
I explained the problem to him, he took my unit, said he'd be right
back and presto, five minutes later he comes out with a brand new
unit, makes the paperwork swap and I'm on my way.

Now that is service.




My experience with Raytheon Marine/Raymarine has always been top shelf.
Glad to hear the great service your local shop gave you.

So what was the "delivery charge" on that boat Tom? g

Well, it would appear I was a tad premature although the service was
top notch.

I just took the tin boat out on a local lake, fired up the RC400 and
got the same software error which locked up the RC400 - I can't reset
it even.

I'll have to have a talk with the software people tomorrow. I've got
a feeling it's the Navionics Hotmaps software that's causing the
lockup - I never had the problem with the normal marine software.

I'll talk to Navionics tomorrow also - this is getting annoying.

plus 30% for the return trip. The delivery, loading/unloading trailer
training, orientation, and the two hour run around the bay, $250.

It was fun.

I understand....but the folks at Raymarine did step up to the plate when you
brought the problem to their attention. Some tweaking is needed on the
software settings and you will be good to go, with a brand new Raymarine
unit to boot.

get a good idea of the contours and can match up the finder with the
GPS.

Also, I've been up on Lake Qinsigamond in Shrewsbury which is in a
very deep valley when fog just came up and you can't see the front of
the boat. It's a big help getting you back to the launch ramp safely.

And it's a great spare for the big boat - just plug it in if the main
GPS drops off, push a couple of magic buttons and I'm back on line.

weekend, trying to find some fishy places mentioned in a fishing guide book.
The book had big numbered dots on the maps, referring to comments in the
accompanying text. But, we could not spot any numbered dots floating in the
water. Result: Skunked.

Keuka is beautiful this time of year. It's nice to go up the hills into
the vineyards and find a place with a view.

Keuka is beautiful this time of year. It's nice to go up the hills into
the vineyards and find a place with a view.


The water was pretty monstrous this past weekend, especially for a 14 foot
boat. I had a passenger on board who had closed a bar the night before. She
was not amused by the waves. :-) But, she was still a trooper, driven by
the mad desire for smallmouth bass.

It's them damned speed boats - they keep running over all the best
spots in the water and ruin things for all of us. Then they replace
the spots and the damn slow boaters like Chuck and Wayne steal them
all because they don't want to alter course - takes effort when
cruising at that slow speed to turn the boat.

Just can't keep good spots on the water anymore - not like the old
days I'll tell you what.

If you are looking for a basic, no map, just a plain old GPS, works on
Double A batteries just so you can get an idea of what's what, compare
position to chart, etc, I have an old Magellan 310 that I'd be willing
to part with - it's not worth much, so I'd be glad to send it along to
somebody who can use it.
