Actually it will perform better than the 4 stroke since it is lighter and
has better acceleration. As said before, I don't believe you will be happy
w/ a 40. You never want to run the engine at wide open for long periods of
time. Poor fuel economy and very hard on the engine.

Is there anyway you can get a demo ride on a boat equipped with one of
hte engines you are considering? I think you're going to be
disappointed with the "efficient" cruise speed.
