Actually it will perform better than the 4 stroke since it is lighter and
has better acceleration. As said before, I don't believe you will be happy w/ a 40. You never want to run the engine at wide open for long periods of time. Poor fuel economy and very hard on the engine. -- Tony my boats at http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "New to Boating" wrote in message ... I called about getting a demo to the Mercury dealer. He said no demos of new motors (because then they'd be used motors) but he would demo used motors. He has a 1998 Mercury 2 stroke electric start 40 hp that he'd sell for $1000. I don't think I want a 2 stroke, as the pollution bothers me. I bet I could get him down to $950. When I visited him I got the impression business was slow. It also seems that 2/3's his inventory is used, and most of the used stuff isn't a year or two old, more like 6-10 years old. It is a 40 hp. I'm sure it will not perform as a 40 hp 4 stroke, but at least I'll be in the ballpark. Dan Krueger wrote: Maybe you can take this a step further and ask them to demo one or two on *your* boat. The dealer will probably have to be on the water for them to accommodate you. Dan Harry Krause wrote: New to Boating wrote: Hand tiller outboards-Which would you choose? Cruising at moderate speeds, around 15mph is the goal. Is this underpowered @ 25-30 hp? Thanks! Is there anyway you can get a demo ride on a boat equipped with one of hte engines you are considering? I think you're going to be disappointed with the "efficient" cruise speed. |
