Default Brass Drain plugs

I am looking for new drain plugs (3 of them) they all appear the same and
look to be 3/8" diameter thread and are a 7/16" head... they are for a '77
mercruiser 140HP 181 engine. I am looking for atleast a part number for
them or something simular or if they are something easy to get somewhere
other then my local marine shop that wants $14ea for them and wont give me a
part number

Thanks in advance.

Mike

You might try he
http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/P...phome.asp?CID=

but you have to know the serial number of the engine.

They are probably 1/4" pipe thread. Take one of the plugs if you have it to
the local auto parts store. They carry a selection of brass plugs.

Take an old one to Lowes and match it up in the plumbing section. Cost
about $1.00 each.

**************

$14 @? !

Those must be the units with the letter "U" cast into the head of the
plug. They come with written instructions:

"Best installed by inserting plug and screwing U".

If I were you, I'd go to the local auto parts house and purchase petcocks
instead of plugs. This will make winterizing much easier and the petcocks
are not expensive.
