Ya, I don't even consider it a distant relative of my "chosen species".

Well, I hope to see them out on the Bay this summer, and maybe latch onto a demo ride if I can. I'd be interested in hearing if the supercharger adds to the noise level in an interesting way. If I ever upgrade the engine on Yo Ho, though, it'll be to a 300 hp unit. There was a Yamaha factory rep at the fishing seminar I attended last weekend who told me such an engine probably would be available in three years. I suspect Merc will have 300 hp, too. That's about right for me, because I like to get rid of outboards as the warranty expires. I'd like to get my 30 mph cruise engine setting down to around 4000 rpm. I'll bet these new engines have two to three times as many parts as your chosen species... -- Email sent to is never read. |

Yamaha currently has a 300HP DFI. They also have the 150 4 strokes for twin
installations. That's the direction I'm heading at the moment since I have to consider the benefit of twins for trips to the Bahamas. It's a fine engine, and does drive the boat well at good cruising speeds. But I'd probably go for twins if I were outboarding to the Bamahas regularly. Where I do most of my boating these days, I can see both the eastern and western shorelines and I have yet to be out of VHF or cell range. -- Email sent to is never read. |

I knew somebody who knew somebody etc., at the Miami Boat show and got a ride on a Hydrosport set up with a "mystery" Merc - it was probably one of these - the time line is right. Very impressive and VERY quiet. Later, Tom S. Woodstock, CT ---------- "To the fisherman born there is nothing so provoking of curiosity as a fishing rod in a case." That will certainly make some marina mechanics very happy. "You bought the
supercharged one? ...come right in" ![]() |
