I understand there is to be an investigation about the shootings. If it
is an honest investigation and not the typical military whitewash, then
I will believe the results.

And by what criteria will the honesty of the aforementioned investigation be
determined? Whether or not the results conform to your predetermination?

Pshaw!

Hard to believe Harry is actually demanding honesty from anyone after this
morning's example.

Ah! By your own lights, you DO have something in common with the military,
after all.

No, they have very little in common. The military is actually quite honest.

I agree, John, but was merely throwing his own hypocrisy back at him.

I stand corrected, but not surprised. But my original point remains:

what
the hell were they thinking? Who was the driver? If the driver was a
local, was this another setup, to create a friendly fire incident upon

which
the world press would jump?

Having driven in Italy, by motorcycle, I can tell you that Italian

drivers are
the scariest bunch of people on the planet. They like to go fast and

stop for
nothing. The Italians have wasted a lot of money on their equivalent of

'yield'
signs!

Of course, it could be that an Italian wasn't driving, in which case I

have no
idea what was going on.

Romania was worse than Italy :-)

These were cars.......but you had to dodge the occasional gypsy cart as
well. To give you an example, if you had two lanes at a light.....you would
have up to five cars in line all trying to get ahead..........you parked on
the sidewalk if there wasn't room on the street....pass on the trolley
lines....while playing chicken with the trolleys.......and in the country,
hitchickers would step out in front of you car to get you to stop........it
was nuts..

What Reuters conveniently omits.......
(from CNN) ....According to a multinational forces statement, the

car
approached the checkpoint at high speed about 9 p.m. (1 p.m. ET)

U.S. troops "attempted to warn the driver to stop by hand and arm

signals,
flashing white lights, and firing warning shots in front of the car,"

the
statement said. "When the driver didn't stop, the soldiers shot into

the
engine block, which stopped the vehicle, killing one and wounding two
others."

In other words, US or other coalition forces used the same checkpoint
procedures that have been in force in Iraq for a long, long time.
Anyone..... anyone..... who approaches a military checkpoint in Iraq at
night and fails to heed warnings is a silly damned fool, among other
things,
and must bear a large share of responsibility for ensuing events.

Why am I not surprised?

Sorry, but I usually don't accept statements of explanation from US
military sources in the absence of independent verification. The
military lies a lot. We've had example after example of this in Iraq.

And so does Harry. He lies all the time.
Funny that certain things are left out....U.S. troops "attempted to warn the
driver to stop by hand and arm signals, flashing white lights, and firing
warning shots in front of the car. Anything to talk Bad about Americans and
the American Troops...
