Default Outboard motor shaft lenght question

Hi,

I am interested for buying an outboard 6HP 4-stroke for a small (no
cabin) boat which is 4.83 meters (pasara).

From the mounting plate to the bottom of the boat we measured 46cm

(18.1) inches. We need to purchase the engine ASAP since its going
abroad.

Is the 15' shaft or the 20' shaft recommended?

Thanks for the advice.

Kind regards,
George

I would go the 20" shaft.

You can always put some wood on top the transom to shim the motor up a bit.

The cavitation plate, the round or oval flat disc just above the propeller,
is suppose to be even or slightly below (up to 2") the bottom of the boat.

Having a motor too deep will slow the boat down some. Having the motor too
high will slow the boat down some too.

Dear Bill,

I think 20" would be appropriate as well. The 15" seems to be used on
inflatables (Zodiac) and such, and the boat is certantly higher then
them.

Thank you for the advice.

Kind regards,
George
