For all I know Petra could be very happily married to a guy named Gunner or Thor. :) It's all in the mind's eye don't cha know. :) And it often looks so much better there than in the real world. Actually, from what I've read and seen of Ellen MacArthur she is totally and completely focused on sailing. She is so intensely competitive that IMHO she'd be a very uncomfortable person to have a relationship with... although I would like to sail with her as a learning experience. Most of these solo types are very focused and competitive. From what I've read, Amelia Earhart was much the same way. Good for her - I'm glad she accomplished something spectacular. Later, Tom |

How about us, Tom? We got up this morning. At our age, that's something spectacular. Maybe for you. It's just routine for me. :) Later, Tom |

But Ellen and Amelia have made really outstanding accomplishments in fields occupied by self-driven obsessives (assholes), so I think they'd probably stand above most in that ranking. I don't know about Amelia Earhart, but Ellen is at least polite and well-spoken (and very very focussed) Good for her - I'm glad she accomplished something spectacular. Me too. She deserves the record. DSK |

Unless you get BBC News you would never know it. Well, those who listen to NPR ("liberal mouthpiece radio" according to some) get a nice BBC account of the world. ... The Beeb gave about half its evening news yesterday to this and it was very, very interesting. That boat really moves! Heck yeah! It's an astonishing mix of technology & skill. Hard to say how much faster these types of boats can get. ... But so far as I know, there was not a word on any other news program or channel. Haven't checked this morning's paper yet but if there is more than a short paragraph I will be surprised. The U.S. pretty much ignores the sport of sailing. Even the America's Cup barely gets a small blip in the popular media. I don't know why, in many places it's very popular. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

Harry,
Please be nice or I won't let you go out in the Jon Boat to fish for sunfish. "hkrause" wrote in message news:1107871639.dfa5936dd9972276e9c94620fba39261@t eranews... Billy wrote: :-) Carry on. The event had nothing to do with 9/11, or other issues which give Bush's pecker a little twitch, so it obviously wasn't newsworthy in this country. :-) |
excellent job Ellen!!!...way to go !!!
