Ellen MacArthur, already the youngest person and the fastest woman to sail around the world alone, has become the fastest sailor to complete a solo non-stop circumnavigation of the globe. When Francis Joyon took 72 days, 22 hours, 54 minutes and 22 seconds to sail around the world last year, he was the first to do it in a trimaran. It was generally expected his record would stand for at least 10 years. Now the 28-year-old MacArthur from the landlocked English county of Derbyshire has re-written the record books with her mark of 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds. |

Well congratulations to her. Setting that record is quite a feat. Just getting to the point of starting out with a boat & gear capable of attempting the record is an accomplishment, getting the boat around the world without major mishap takes great skill & a tremendous amount of work... and she gets the reward of setting the record. She deserves the accolade! Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

Congratulations to her & the team that built the boat:-) K & the Krause lie of the day is ???? So I hate to dwell on the Hatt 43 (well OK I don't really "hate" it:-)) but in a hurry & this only takes a second, the arguments over the Hatt went on for ages, fake photo being posted the "sudden" disposal when a couple of NG people were about to expose him, then eventually just to absolutely confirm it was nothing but a liar's BS like all his other "boating" claims his only answer was he "chose" not to post a real pic. The lowest of the low liars is our own Krause;-) The photo was genuine. I certainly can "provide" a photo of what you refer to as "get home." But, as I responded previously, I choose not to do so. |

I'd agree that some people manage to be focussed, self-directed, and intensely competitive without quite being full-fledged a**h***s, but most of the times such priorities as curtesy, social ritual, attention to the wants & needs of others, etc etc fade away... and guess what you have left... Of course, this kind of person is also a super-achiever... as Ellen M certainly is. This is the kind of person you want to have if the goal is getting things done. I think this is the origin of the term "Type-A personality." The problem is that a lot of people have all the negative characteristics and few of the positive, and are not even plus-scale achievers.
