OT (sorta of).... A lesson learned.

I've driven the New England to South Florida (and back) route several times
in the past four years, but never at the December Holiday Season.

Never again.

We arrived back in Florida today, surviving three major, and I mean MAJOR
traffic jams along the way down route 95.

The first involved a 18 wheeler accident - no injuries- but we spent 2 and
a half hours crawling along at 0 to 15 miles an hour to clear the accident
scene, without exaggeration. When we finally arrived at the scene, there
were about half a dozen state troupers standing around, sipping coffee and
none of them where attempting to control the traffic flow from three lanes
down to one. All the drivers were on their own, to snarl, beep, single
finger communicate, etc. It would have been very effective to have one or
more of these cops coordinating the traffic flow, rather than standing
around shooting the whatever. This was in CT.

Happened again in North Carolina, although not as bad. Then again, just
south of Jacksonville, FL, although I was able to exit onto RT 1 south and
bypass all the delays.

In the future, I'll forgo the white Christmas crap in New England, and just
stay in sunny, 74 degree south Florida.

I95 is a horrific drive...the highway is overloaded with cars and
trucks, it hasn't enough lanes, and, as you point out, when there's any
sort of accident, there are hours of delays. The section I like least is
between DC and Richmond.

I'd agree with that although south of Richmond it usually is a breeze all
the way to Florida.
I used to really dislike the New Haven, Stratford, Bridgeport and Stamford
CT areas, but they have been much improved over the past couple of years.

I still refuse to go over the George Washington Bridge, no-man's land. I
take 287 over the Tappan Zee bridge, then the Garden State Parkway back to
Rt 95 (Jersey Turnpike).

Harry,
Have you read where some Texans want to built a 1/4 mile WIDE super
highway. Something like 6 car lanes, two truck lanes, a train track,
utilities including fiber optic cable. From what the article said the
Republicans (party in control) weren't even supporting the idea. Of course
most of those that would have to give up land for it are against it. It's
supposed to parallel route 35 if I remember correctly. I don't think it will
come to fruitation but they sure do have an imagination down there.

We need another major N-S highway from NY to Florida, but, of course, this
country no longer has the resources or the will to undertake major
infrastructure improvement.

Seems like a good way to concentrate infrastructure....I-95 should be
four or six lanes the whole way.

I've often wondered how the road surface leading up to the toll booths at
the George Washington Bridge could ever be scheduled for repair and
resurfacing. There are ruts sunk into the pavement that millions of car and
truck tires have created over the years. Imagine trying to shut down that
section of the road for a week or more in order to properly repair the
roads. The traffic backups would become a national disaster.

As I remember it was to run a ways to the east of route 35. It was

Heck, I have driven to Florida from Michigan 4 out of the last 5 years. I use
I-75 then cut over to Kissimmee where my time share is and have not, to date,
experienced your difficulties.

This past holiday season I stayed in Michigan using my time share up in
Traverse City because it cost me fewer points and I have enough left over to go
to Toronto in march for another week.

Basicly, I just did not feel like the drive south this year.

That's odd. You sure try hard to push Naples as the best place in the
world. Well, you are wrong, as usual:
On the way to Naples' historic Pier is Palm Cottage, built in 1895 and
reputedly Naples' oldest house, where guided tours are offered in
season. Other historic buildings include the Naples Commissary Building
in Olde Naples, dating back to 1903, and the renovated Naples Depot
(1927), once the Naples Train Station and now displaying a caboose and
other railroad memorabilia. History buffs will also find much of
interest at the Collier County Museum, which houses a permanent
collection from Prehistoric times through to the present day. You will
learn about the early Indian settlements here and may wish to go on to
visit an Indian Village in the area, where genuine Indian, hand-crafted
artifacts are sold.

Naples doesn't have swampbillies. Perhaps you're referring to Golden Gate
Estates? Yes, it has a Naples mailing address...but it's not the same
Naples that a couple hundred thousand snowbirds come down to visit every

The median home price in Naples is just a hair under $400,000. Swampbillies
don't buy $400,000 homes.

Why do so? NOYB won't believe it anyway! He only believes what he

Naples doesn't have swampbillies. Perhaps you're referring to Golden

Gate
Estates? Yes, it has a Naples mailing address...but it's not the

same
Naples that a couple hundred thousand snowbirds come down to visit

every
year.

The median home price in Naples is just a hair under $400,000.

Swampbillies
don't buy $400,000 homes.

You obviously haven't been to Naples in a long time...probably not

since you
worked parking lot security when the Wal-Mart was being built.

Oh, yes, I KNOW you can't possibly comrehend that Naples is nothing but
a swamp town.

If being homeless is the definition of a "swampbilly", then Naples has no

the high per capita net worth, and the large number of elderly church-going
retirees, the churches down here have oodles of cash that they spend on
taking care of the less-fortunate. Coming back from a cruise to the Bahamas

Why do so? NOYB won't believe it anyway! He only believes what he wants

Naples doesn't have swampbillies. Perhaps you're referring to Golden

If being homeless is the definition of a "swampbilly", then Naples has no
"swampbillies". I have never seen a homeless person in Naples.

Then you are a blind man.

There are no homeless people in the sense that there are folks sleeping on
the street. There are homeless people in shelters down here, no doubt.

Coming back from a cruise to the Bahamas
last week, I was astounded at the number of homeless folks in the
neighborhood around Capt. Harry's tackle in Miami...which is just a
couple of blocks from the American Airlines (or whatever they call it
now) Arena and the waterfront.

It's also on the cusp of an area that has undergone a lot of change, and
there is a homeless mission not far from the store...or there was.

It's still there. Right across the street from Capt. Harry's.

Methinks you're just one of those good Christian Americans who have no
idea about the poverty in their communities. The poverty rate in Naples
city rose 50% between 1990 and 1996, and is now about the same as the rest
of Florida, excluding Miami, which has a higher rate because of factors
unique to it. Your poverty rate is about 10%.

Where are you getting your data? When you say "now", are you referring to
2000 census data? Things have changed quite a bit in 5 years. Is the data
specific to Naples? Or is it for all of Collier County, which includes
several poor communities like Immokalee, Everglades City, and Chokoloskee?

Regardless, living blow the level of poverty isn't the the same thing as
being homeless. All homeless folks are below the poverty level, but not
everyone who is below the poverty level is homeless.

The road is old and overutilized.

Kind of like the vaginal orifice on an old whore, eh?

Kind of like all of Florida, eh?

Everything in Naples is new...but it is overutilized.

That's odd. You sure try hard to push Naples as the best place in

the

world. Well, you are wrong, as usual:
On the way to Naples' historic Pier is Palm Cottage, built in 1895

and

reputedly Naples' oldest house, where guided tours are offered in
season. Other historic buildings include the Naples Commissary

Building

in Olde Naples, dating back to 1903, and the renovated Naples Depot
(1927), once the Naples Train Station and now displaying a caboose

and

other railroad memorabilia. History buffs will also find much of
interest at the Collier County Museum, which houses a permanent
collection from Prehistoric times through to the present day. You

will

learn about the early Indian settlements here and may wish to go on

to

visit an Indian Village in the area, where genuine Indian,

hand-crafted

artifacts are sold.

Why not just post the web site from which you plagiarized your
information?

Good day, and Happy New Year!

John H

Why do so? NOYB won't believe it anyway! He only believes what he
wants
to believe. I've been to Naples. Many times. I know people who's
families have lived in Naples for generations. It's just like the
time
that NOYB was trying to tell everyone here that Naples doesn't have
swampbillies.

Naples doesn't have swampbillies. Perhaps you're referring to Golden
Gate Estates? Yes, it has a Naples mailing address...but it's not the
same Naples that a couple hundred thousand snowbirds come down to
visit every year.

The median home price in Naples is just a hair under $400,000.
Swampbillies don't buy $400,000 homes.

You obviously haven't been to Naples in a long time...probably not
since you worked parking lot security when the Wal-Mart was being
built.

I thought a swampbilly was a homeless person who lived in your part of
the country...

If being homeless is the definition of a "swampbilly", then Naples has
no "swampbillies". I have never seen a homeless person in Naples.

Then you are a blind man.

There are no homeless people in the sense that there are folks sleeping
on the street. There are homeless people in shelters down here, no
doubt.

The poverty rate in Naples
city rose 50% between 1990 and 1996, and is now about the same as the
rest of Florida, excluding Miami, which has a higher rate because of
factors unique to it. Your poverty rate is about 10%.

Where are you getting your data? When you say "now", are you referring
to 2000 census data? Things have changed quite a bit in 5 years. Is the
data specific to Naples? Or is it for all of Collier County, which
includes several poor communities like Immokalee, Everglades City, and
Chokoloskee?

Regardless, living blow the level of poverty isn't the the same thing as
being homeless. All homeless folks are below the poverty level, but not
everyone who is below the poverty level is homeless.

Sheesh.

You live there and you're in the healing arts and you don't know there are
homeless in your town?

I had no problem getting hits on "Naples" "Homeless," and these were both
in the city and in the county.

Both are your area.

You posted very specific statistics for Naples. Where'd you get that data?

From my search. I got about 990 hits. I looked at a couple of them.

Why don't you just post a link to the stats? It should be in your History
list.

You know Bassy you don't have to prove how stupid you are

*every*
day....take a day off once in a while. ;-)

You trying to 'cow down' the deadbeat asslicker?

All in the same post:

First you assert:

Hey, Fritz, do you do ANYTHING besides call people childish names
while hiding behind usenet? Again, just like the 3rd grader who

calls
people names, then runs home to hide.

Then you state:

You are nothing more than a
bothersome gnat. I'm sorry that your wife ran off, but, hell, how

could
you blame her? She probably wanted someone who acted like a MAN,
instead of you.

Unbelievable.

It is pretty comical how easy it is to prompt asslicker into showing

what a
complete idiot he is.

And he wonders why he holds the title of 'King of the NG idiots"

Fritz, what do you find idiotic about my post? Be specific. Now, I can
be VERY specific about what I find idiotic about YOUR posts:
You NEVER, EVER post anything of any substance, OR anything relating to
the post. You simply call people childish little names in your feeble
attempt to be a man, after your wife ran off with your real manhood.
