SNIP Of course, this is the fundamental problem with your border security: it's keeping honest folks like Don and I (who might spend money down there!) out, but is doing nothing to counter terrorism. Ya know, I hear this kind of crap all day from the likes of you, Gould, Harry, and the rest, can you please elaborate on this one statement, and please give some examples, proof, or is is just more of your endless political rubbish? What? Even your 'Brown Pelicans' are trying to get away from your
repressive regime. One landed here and a local vet is taking care of it until we ship it back to Miami. Darn shame......bird has more sense than a lot of 'good 'ole boys'. NOYB wrote in message news:uwfKb.26265 I'm glad the CG is there to keep the likes of Don and Lloyd out of our country. |

*ONE* stinkin' pelican!? Are you sure it wasn't a loony bird? Do you know
how many Canadian geese permanently leave Canada and head to the US every year? BTW--keep your damn geese up there...'cause their **** is polluting the water in our parks. Here in Rochester, my local ramp was open the weekend before last, and there were probably 75 boats anchored, fishing for perch. The docks had been removed, but with two people, launching wasn't a problem. But, I saw something I'd never seen before at this location: There were two CG guys walking back and forth constantly between the jetty which protects the channel into Lake Ontario, the the launch site, which is directly adjacent. At first, I thought they were checking safety equipment, or doing the DEC a favor and looking at fishing licenses. But, they didn't pause long enough to check equipment as each boat came in. Then it dawned on me: It was a gorgeous day and the lake was flat as glass. It would've been a breeze to bring a small boat across from Canada. I think we can expect all sorts of strange stuff for quite some time. I fish Narragansett Bay and environs a lot and there have been some restrictions put in place around the Bridges like you can't fish within 500 feet of the bridge and a couple of others like you can't fish from shore around the bridges which make no sense at all. The fishing clubs were told that the DPU in RI was given a directive from the Dept. of Homeland Security and they couldn't do anything about it because it involved funding of some sort. Of course, after all this came out, just to test the system, I anchored directly under the Pell (Jamestown) Bridge and fished for black fish for about four hours, was passed by two Coasties in high speed partol boats and a 100 foot cutter and nobody said nuttin'. :) And yes, I was monitoring 9/16 and the local working frequency, 13. There has been a cop there 24hr a day since then. STUPID STUPID STUPID WHAT A WAISTE OF MONEY I am all for being safe but come on.......put up some cement blocks and shut the ramp down and put the police to a better use if you need to do. |

What's really annoying is having to monitor news broadcasts for any footage of Bush speaking, so I can quickly get my 14 yr old son out of the room. So far, the kid's writing better than many college kids. Wouldn't want him exposed to any negative influences. |

There are already some security zones in Long Beach Harbor. Probably can
not launch and stay the 500' from the cruise and cargo ships. Remember this is one of the busier West coast ports. Bill "Shortwave Sportfishing" wrote in message ... I asked a friend who runs a launch facility in another town.
Los Angeles Harbour had a "specific threat", and so, decided to close the launch facilities. With the few people using them, I would rather have seen them use the manpower to observe and capture one of these "evil doers". How did closing a couple of launch ramps that would have had a dozen uses, at the most, help make us safer? One guy looking closely at the boats might have caught someone, and maybe LEARNED something. Something that might have helped make us safer. It turns out that Howard Dean is right, you know.
