Seeing you use your computer on the boat & travel all over the place, I
assume with myriad connections Mr E;.... taking a deep breath he-)
.............. have you considered using one of the Linux distributions??
You can have a dual boot machine so keeping your MS windows even as the
default boot if you like, then boot Linux if & when it suits you.

I venture you'll use windows less & less once you see how good open
source is & you'll not even know about all the online troubles MS people
have.

While I'm out on this wobbly limb (can hear the chain saws trying to be
started, glad they're 2 strokes:-)) we use fedora2 but it's still got
some rough edges, so I'll suggest starting with say the latest mandrake,
it's really user friendly & has all the stuff.

Till MS get longhorn finished the latest Linux distributions with the
2.6 xxx kernel are definitely ahead in the game.

Anyway, everyone pays through the nose for MS then winges & wines about
it when there's a free & "possibly" better alternative they haven't even
tried:-)
