Default Continuing Saga of Far Cove's Engine

Lloyd, if the idea is to quickly get some harbor propulsion, without spending
a ton of money, go with electric. Most of the transom-mount trolling motors
(i.e. Minn-Kota, Motor Guide, etc.) have a stainless or painted pipe
connecting the control head with the electric motor.

If you're handy (God bless Red Green), you can disassemble the control head
from the motor, and replace the "pipe" with a longer one. You may need to
replace the electrical leads, depending upon how much length you need to add.
Make sure to waterproof the pipe threads. If you're not confident about this,
any good electrician should be able to do it for you.

It may not be the ideal solution, but it won't strain your budget, and it
works (I have extended a Minn-Kota, without problems.).

Yeah, this is more along the lines I'm thinking. Some of the other solutions
were interesting, but cost more than the new diesel! (Just got the quote:
$10,077 incl taxes and a new Campbell Sailor prop)

I was thinking about *******izing the "little" Minn Kota and bolting the
motor itself to the propshaft plate. That way the prop is in the right spot for
max rudder control. Problem with this is I think these trolling motors rely on
being underwater for cooling, right?

Your extended electric might do the trick though...
