We should have a similar "weighting" system when people try to
immigrate here. But the liberals would have a fit and claim that we
are being "discriminatory"...

Dave

When people try to immigrate here, the most important test is whether they are
willing to work for some member of the Chamber of Commerce down in San Diego or
some wealthy rancher in AZ for about
half the federal minimum wage. Then its all about nod nod, wink wink, you *did*
have a
SSN#, didn't you?

The conservative business community is the number one promoter of questionable
immigration into the US. Their greed for workers willing to work at starvation
wages enables the "immigrants".

They don't take everyone, that's for sure. It's expensive to get in
(lots of application fees) Takes a long time, and they won't take you if
you have any kind of criminal record or severe health problem. You need
67 points, which you get for being between 21 and 49, and you lose them
for being outside that range. You gain them for education, speaking
French or English, having Canadian relatives and some other reasons.

You have to either be a skilled worker in a field they are looking for,
an entrepreneur, or an investor. The last two categories mean you need
to have hundreds of thousands of $$$ to bring to Canada.

The upside is that they are just so much smarter than we are. Think of
their stands on fiscal responsibility, health care (not perfect, but a
lot better than ours), guns, abortion, the environment, religion in
government, etc. I think it must be global warming creeping up and
cooking the brains of our southern brethren. I'm bummed that we could be
so stupid, selfish and shortsighted.

Quit whining, since you are obviously not part of the solution.

I sincerely hope you have enough "points" to make it to Canada.

Indeed, and as you know, Canada is one of my favorite places, but...
it's a tad cool for my taste. I have a retired buddy who moved to Costa
Rica a few years ago, bought himself a small coffee plantation for under
$100,000, and plays at farmer and fishing guide. Costa Rica is pretty
stable and the weather is great.

snip..

A buddy of mine, who has pretty well lived in the Caribbean since 1979
always said Costs Rica would be a good place to move to. At one time, all
you needed to immigrate was to show an income of $ 1000.00 per month. That
figure might be $2500./month or so now but still reasonable. I find the
January-March period very tiresome here. Maybe I should take up skiing or
snowmobiling.

Gould,
Do you have something against unskilled Mexicans who are willing to work for
minimum wage?

He's just showing the typical liebral snobbery.

If mexicans are willing to come here and work 12 hours a day for 4 bucks an
hour, live with 5 others and send half the money home....so what.

They most likely consider it a step up from the $5 a DAY that they were
making at home. It is the liebrals that don't want that sort of
immigration, because it kills their union thug donations.

It is illegal for anyone to pay someone less than minimum wage, and wither
you agree with it or not, you should not break the law. If someone knows an
employer who is breaking the law, they should turn them in so they can be
prosecuted. Why should an employer pay more than the market price for
labor? I know there are many skilled Mexican construction workers who earn
substantially more than minimum wage. I replaced tile in my bathroom and
the contractor was paying the Mexican $35/hr plus benefits. If an unskilled
worker wants to earn more than minimum wage, he needs to learn a skill and
increase his value.

I a fully aware of the minimum wage, my point being that having a minimum
wage is simply wrong.....If a worker is willing to work for $4.00 an hour,
why is it the guvmint position to say, no he can't. I am well aware of the
skill and work ethic of Mexican workers. Th crew that did my house
addition never stopped working, and finished the job in half the time a
union crew would have.

Nice segue. I was talking about LEGAL immigration. You, on the other
hand, are talking about illegal immigration.

And the jury is still out on whether conservative greed for cheap
labor outweighs the liberal desire to sign them up to the voting ranks
(democratic of course). I wonder how many of them are part of those
