Bilge- I think you're talking about Cambridge,Maryland. If you don't dig
Murrilyn's state tax scene, then there's the Virginia portion, which revolves
around the Norfolk/Hampton/Newport News "Tidewater". And as I understand it,
Delaware's taxes are lowest of all, although Delaware has it's own dang
bay...but it's just a hop through the C&D canal if you MUST float on the
Chesapeake.

I think you'll need more than two days to scope out the DelMarVa Peninsula.

-The ideal situation would be ground that I could purchase and maybe setup my
35' 5th wheel on until I built, but I'm not going to go through all that if I
can get a good deal on a house down there. I do NOT have to be "on the water"
but close enough to a dock/slip where I could keep my boat. I like the area
between the bay and delaware...I guess the "east" side most...that way, we'd be
close to the beach as well.-mechtechlic

Bilge-You can access all the realtors you need on the internet. Since I've no
clue where you live now, I can't tell you what would be a "good deal" for you.
I know that I'm agog at the reasonableness of realty down here in Hampton
Roads,(I live in metro DC).

If you really feel adventurous, sell your boats and buy a houseboat...tour the
place the way the colonists did...and in a craft not much smaller, for that
matter.

This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for....options. I never even considered
the delaware bay area.

Well, I meant 2 days at a time. I'll be putting our other house on the
market right around Feb. It's a 2 story, 1600sq ft right on the
susquehanna....they've been going quickly around here for 130k. I should be
able to squeeze that a little harder since I'm on 2 acres with a private
concrete ramp/dock and a 2 story shop complete with elevator across the
drive.

Harrisburg, PA. I don't want to contact realtors until I know where the
hell I want to go!!!

That would be a little too adventurous for me at this point. I need to
LEARN a lot before a task such as that. I have a lot of river experience
and know about 16 miles of it like the back of my hand but I'd feel REAL
uncomfortable for the first 2 years out on the delaware/chesapeake bay!! I
need to find a person where we decide to buy that will take me under their
"oar" so to speak:-)

SS-DD, y'know?

Good luck on the house hunt. I wouldn't overlook the Atlantic coast of the
DelMarVa, either, Ocean City MD is fun in the summer, and there's lots of
sounds, bays and rivers you can fart about in your boat exploring.

Berlin,Maryland is a nice little town, and close to OC's restaurants galore.
Salisbury MD is the year-round big town on that end, and I s'pose it's okay, if
you don't mind the smell of the Perdue poultry plant in August...clears the
sinuses, good fer what ails ya.

I took the family on a weekender over the ChesBay Bridge Tunnel...far out.
Within 15 minutes you go from sleepy backwater farm country to urban
Norfolk/Virginia Beach.

And...I must pass this along for my deck colleagues...us heavies are in a
dredged channel all the way up and down the bay...vessel under power
constrained by draft, and all that Rules of the Road they chant at each
other....give us a break and keep clear of us in the channel, otherwise we all
have to lurn the "Tonnage Law of Navigation".

Who needs that?

I took the Wright out on an exercise back in 2000, and the Chief Mate and I
were hanging out on the bow to release the brakes on the anchor windlasses, if
needed...the "emergency brakes", so to speak.

While we're shootin' the breeze in the Bremerton Channel(?), I remarked to him
that he should be glad he wasn't on watch and checking the DARPA radars.

He asked me why, and I pointed out that it was a clear summer Sunday morning,
with a steady 10-15 knot wind from the northwest, and ascertained that he'd
never sailed past Annapolis under these circumstances.

Sho' 'nuff, the Bay Bridge heaves into view, and I directed his attention to
the veritable infestation of sails just visible beneath the spans.

I asked him what THAT target would look like on the radar plot. He chuckled
ruefully and admitted that he really did prefer "emergency brake" duty.
