Default Monster Shark Tournament

Anyone following this series on ESPN?

The tournament took place this summer at Oak Bluffs in Martha's
Vineyard. 150 boats were entered, several owned or crewed by friends of
mine. Great job by ESPN. Two friends crewed on "Magic Lady" that ....
well, I won't spoil the finish for those of you that are watching the
series.

Speaking of sharks, I was on MV for a couple of weeks the summer that
they filmed "Jaws" circa 1975 or thereabouts. What a three ring
circus that was with the movie folks intermingled with the tourists
and Edgartown regulars. We sailed in the day that the "Orca" almost
sank in real life. It sprang a plank during the shoot and was towed
back to Edgartown Marine with the gunnels awash. The producers flew
in a shipwright from the mainland and he spent the next two days
fitting a new plank while everything else was on hold. It was a mini
education in old time boat building to watch him work. I was walking
around the docks looking thoroughly disreputable and most of the
tourists assumed I was involved with the movie in some way.

PS, how have you been surviving the hurricanes? You were pretty close
to ground zero for Frances and Jeanne if my memory is correct.

Mrs. E and I are up north for the summer (MA) so we weren't there for
the big blows. Unfortunately, our house in Jupiter did sustain some
damage. Seems the wind blew a set of double doors open which cascaded
into several outside doors being blow open. One of the sets of French
doors were ripped completely off of their hinges. With the house open to
the elements, most of the furniture and rugs got soaked with rain water.
One of our dining room chairs was picked up and deposited outside in the
pool. At least the roof stayed on, although several concrete roof tiles
were ripped off. All can be fixed, so no big loss.

I have my Scout stored at a marina on one of those rack storage units.
I haven't heard anything so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Hmmm. You have storm shutters? They really can help if they are
installed properly.

them, who is arrogant about his ignorance, who is reckless and

What, me worry?

Nope, no shutters. Wish now that we had installed them. We survived
Frances with no damage other than a couple of trees falling and were
probably lulled into a false sense of security. The winds in Jeanne were
much stronger. Hurricanes should be banned.

They will be under John Kerry.

Seriously, check out the shutters. We had them on our house..I recall
they were about $300 per double window, but this was some years ago.

You bet, FL hurricanes at the very least. There's going to be a big
run on storm shutter installation this winter, along with pool cage
replacement. Right now you can't even get an estimate for a new pool
cage.

Sorry to hear about your damage. We drove through the Jupiter area on
I-95 Sunday, about 12 hours behind the eyewall. The winds were still
howling.
