Default Question : Gamefisher 5HP outboard engine

I have a 1989 5HP Sears Gamefisher outboard engine, black in color.
Model number = 225.587501
Serial number = 5069

I "think" this is the same as the Mercury "Force" 5HP made in 1989.

Questions:
1. Is the engine water cooled, or air cooled?
That is, does the impeller cool the engine, or just the shaft?
2. Will the 5HP Mercury Force parts interchange?
3. Where can I go to get low priced parts, like the impeller, etc.?
Sears is outrageously high in price.

Please email me at:
if you have time.

THANKS,
Gene

1--The exhaust is water cooled.
2--Quicksilver parts are oem for gamefisher motors.I am not sure that the
part numbers are the same and do not know of any cross reference if they are
not.
3--You could try using a part number off sears.com/parts then call/search
around to see if price is cheaper.

4--Sears has a 52% mark up on otc parts over what the source charges them.
hope this helps,
Chad

If this is your engine...:

http://tinyurl.com/55fn8

&

http://tinyurl.com/4k7ts

Then it is a Merc, and the Sears parts website will "spoon-feed" you the
Mercury parts numbers - they will show in red in the "shopping cart".

For example:

FLYWHEEL 819363T1 (687097) 225587501 $ 205.49
GEAR HOUSING 820090A3 (C341054) 225587501 $ 753.99
SHORT BLOCK 819854A5 (C702010) 225587501 $ 1223.49
OWNER MANUAL OB4422 225587501 $ 17.49

Are the prices from Sears....! The first set of numbers is the Merc
part #.

Good Luck!

Rob
