Wearing a mask and social distancing should help the economy in
the long run. If humanitarian reasons wont encourage folks to do
it then monitary reasons just might.

Unless I missed where you said you have an advanced degree in "pandemic
virus transmission mechanics", you really have zero standing to proclaim
it as being useless.

You saying stuff like that reeks of being harry-esque. Just saying.

I have spent many hours in classes about PPE. I do understand what
masks are all about.
If a bandanna loosely tied around your face is a mask, there is no
such thing as a mask.

In the CDC article, which I'm sure you've read all three times I shared it with
you, did you see any mention of bandannas?

... but a bandanna or a neck gaiter are perfectly acceptable to the
"mask" gang. In fact Wayne said that was what he used (actually the
first time I knew what you called those U/V protectors I see guys on
boats wearing).

So? Some folks wear nothing. That doesn't make them right.

I think the CDC actually uses the term "cloth face covering" is some
of their politically correct writings.

I know it would pain you to read the CDC mask guidelines I posted for you, but
you might give it a shot.

Post it again and try to get the same one because their "opinion" does
not seem to be that static. They are all over and nothing I have seen,
actually looks like a real study. It is all "may", "might" and

A face covering worn by the public during this epedemic is not PPE. Maybe that's where your confusion lies.

PPE is meant to protect the wearer. These face coverings are meant to slow the aerosols that are emmited by the wearer, helping to limit the exposure to people *around* the wearer.

I suspect you, like some I see in public, simply don't like wearing a mask.

I don't like fads and meaningless gestures. I wear a mask when it is
PPE, not when it is a fashion statement. This started out talking
about coughs and sneezes that travel "x" number of feet. When it was
pointed out most of us are not coughing and sneezing, it started
getting silly. Now the powers that be are admitting, if you are 6 feet
away, you probably don't need a mask and they also say incidental
contact is also not dangerous (passing someone at the Walmart).
The transmission seems to be where people are on close contact for a
long time, like sitting together on a pew singing hymns, sharing a
sacrificial wine chalice and passing snakes around.

How is that? If you are just saying the irrational demand that people

but there are a whole lot of people who don't like meaningless
gestures.
This is about as effective as those people wearing yellow ribbons to
get the hostages back.

Tying garlic around your neck "may" protect you too.

What is missing is any kind of scientific study or proof.
To start with there is no standard to test.

Maybe I am just a victim of working in a couple of different
industries that have standards and I was taught if there is no
standard, there is no assurance the product is doing anything.

Would you use a space heater that wasn't U/L (or some other NTRL)
listed?
Would you use a seat belt that did not pass the NHTSA standards?
How about an airbag?

The
only sure way to prevent catching the virus is to put a plastic bag over your
head and zip-tie it tightly around your neck.

That is not really effective either if you are still handling the bag
and then touching your face. I also have demonstrated with my oxygen
meter than you are not that far off when you are trying to breathe
through a damp surgical mask. My blood oxygen dropped 10%, just
carrying the Costco stuff in from the car.

normal. Not a mask in sight.
It is pretty hard to eat or drink with a mask on.

LOL. This mask stuff really has your underwear in a bunch.

Just the useless gesture aspect of it

Unless I missed where you said you have an advanced degree in "pandemic virus transmission mechanics", you really have zero standing to proclaim it as being useless.

You saying stuff like that reeks of being harry-esque. Just saying.

I have spent many hours in classes about PPE. I do understand what
masks are all about.
If a bandanna loosely tied around your face is a mask, there is no
such thing as a mask.

The purpose and goal is to cause the covid thing to die out. Wearing a
mask may or may not help or even be required but they don't hurt and
*might* prevent some from becoming infected who, in turn, will infect
others.

It's not just one precaution. It's taking a number of precautions
because it's still not fully understood what all the means of
transmission is.

Something is working. The rate of infections is decreasing in many
places .... although they are increasing somewhat in others ...like
in your state of Florida. Funny that the general decrease in
infections began about the time that the wearing of masks was
either mandated or recommended in many states.

I was just out to a store to pick up a fan. *Everyone^ there were
wearing a mask.

You might want to consider thinking more of others than just of yourself
and your personal rationalizations.

Data is through the middle (12th) of May that included only the early stages of "opening" the country. Next month's data could be much better if this trend continues. How much of that is just people who gave up trying to get unemployment from a system that failed from the overload? I do hope it is real but until we are really reopened I am skeptical. I do

understand a lot of businesses have found a way around these shutdowns tho. Construction and the service trades are going full tilt around here. I know my trade neighbors say they are staying busy. We are also starting to see restaurants open. I was in Rusty's the other day (sports bar, restaurant) and there were 20 customers inside at tables. They removed about half the tables and all the bar stools so people could spread out but other than that it was business as normal. Not a mask in sight. I may start using curbside there but Ihave about 5-6 weeks worth of dog food so they may change their policyby them. The maskless folks are social distancing. The guy with the hand over his mouthhas a mask under the hand. --Freedom Isn't Free!

Wearing a mask and social distancing should help the economy in
the long run. If humanitarian reasons wont encourage folks to do
it then monitary reasons just might.

How is that? If you are just saying the irrational demand that people
wear a mask will make reopening more politically viable, I might agree
but there are a whole lot of people who don't like meaningless
gestures.

This is about as effective as those people wearing yellow ribbons to
get the hostages back.

Good grief. Yellow ribbons don't get hostages back. Yellow ribbons
only represent solidarity and serve as reminders among those who *care*.
