I do hope it is real but until we are really reopened I am skeptical.
I do understand a lot of businesses have found a way around these
shutdowns tho. Construction and the service trades are going full tilt
around here. I know my trade neighbors say they are staying busy.
We are also starting to see restaurants open. I was in Rusty's the
other day (sports bar, restaurant) and there were 20 customers inside
at tables. They removed about half the tables and all the bar stools
so people could spread out but other than that it was business as
normal. Not a mask in sight.
It is pretty hard to eat or drink with a mask on.

LOL. This mask stuff really has your underwear in a bunch.

Unless I missed where you said you have an advanced degree in "pandemic virus transmission mechanics", you really have zero standing to proclaim it as being useless.

You saying stuff like that reeks of being harry-esque. Just saying.

I have spent many hours in classes about PPE. I do understand what
masks are all about.
If a bandanna loosely tied around your face is a mask, there is no
such thing as a mask.

A face covering worn by the public during this epedemic is not PPE. Maybe that's where your confusion lies.

PPE is meant to protect the wearer. These face coverings are meant to slow the aerosols that are emmited by the wearer, helping to limit the exposure to people *around* the wearer.

I suspect you, like some I see in public, simply don't like wearing a mask.

I don't like fads and meaningless gestures. I wear a mask when it is
PPE, not when it is a fashion statement. This started out talking
about coughs and sneezes that travel "x" number of feet. When it was
pointed out most of us are not coughing and sneezing, it started
getting silly. Now the powers that be are admitting, if you are 6 feet
away, you probably don't need a mask and they also say incidental
contact is also not dangerous (passing someone at the Walmart).
The transmission seems to be where people are on close contact for a
long time, like sitting together on a pew singing hymns, sharing a
sacrificial wine chalice and passing snakes around.

The purpose and goal is to cause the covid thing to die out. Wearing a
mask may or may not help or even be required but they don't hurt and
*might* prevent some from becoming infected who, in turn, will infect
others.

It's not just one precaution. It's taking a number of precautions
because it's still not fully understood what all the means of
transmission is.

Something is working. The rate of infections is decreasing in many
places .... although they are increasing somewhat in others ...like
in your state of Florida. Funny that the general decrease in
infections began about the time that the wearing of masks was
either mandated or recommended in many states.

I was just out to a store to pick up a fan. *Everyone^ there were
wearing a mask.

You might want to consider thinking more of others than just of yourself
and your personal rationalizations.
