Default Speaking of the Draft ....

18 year old males are still required to register for selective service
although there has not been a "draft" since the 70's.

But in this day and age of gender equality females are *not* required to
register.

So, if a male decides he's a female, then there is no requirement for him to register? After all, a
'mentally' transgendered person is allowed to use either restroom at Target.

Interesting question.

Apparently the number of males ignoring the requirement to register is
growing despite many penalties for not doing so.

Interesting concept. Maybe there is a 4-Q classification for them.
I know in the 60s being gay would keep you out but the other
ramifications of that kept most from going that route.
It would be the same as walking around with an undesirable discharge
on your back (what happened if you "came out" in uniform).
It was commonly called "going to talk to the chaplain" and pretty much
automatic.

I suppose the equal rights argument might make a great defense. I
agree, these days both men and women should be required to register.

In grade school. I never figured out what advantage there was of ducking under our little metal desks during a nookular attack would prove. May be we’d fry a just a bit longer...

If someone dies in a nuclear war, it is as likely to be here as any
other country.
I was in another group talking and pointed out, we never did those
duck and cover drills in DC. Everyone understood we might have the
sensation of heat and light for a few microseconds but there would be
no ducking and covering in DC. The blast radius from a 1 megaton
direct hit on the capitol pretty much looked like right of way for the
Beltway.

We sure did. Whiteman AFB, where my dad was stationed, was only about 25
miles from Sedalia, MO.

We did the duck and cover drills. Plans were to evacuate the East Bay via
US40. Which was San Pablo ave, a Main Street with shopping until the
carquinez bridge. And 2 lanes each way to Sacramento. Parents said to
just come home. They knew the evacuation would not succeed. Was 5
blocks to home from the school.

I don't think anyone in DC took evacuation or much of anything else
seriously. They just assumed in a nuke war we were toast.
During the Cuban Missile ****up my dad wanted us all to go to the
mountains in southern Virginia but my mom asked why bother.
