I was in another group talking and pointed out, we never did those
duck and cover drills in DC. Everyone understood we might have the
sensation of heat and light for a few microseconds but there would be
no ducking and covering in DC. The blast radius from a 1 megaton
direct hit on the capitol pretty much looked like right of way for the
Beltway.

We sure did. Whiteman AFB, where my dad was stationed, was only about 25 miles from Sedalia, MO.
