I am definitely in favor of mandatory, universal background checks for firearm purchases. I know others disagree but I think it's only commonsense. Like most complex issues in a diversified society, some level of compromise is required to advance the welfare and safety of the whole. |

Just think, it will only take 49 more assholes like the one in Vegas to equal what a few muslims did in NY on the morning of 9-11. I don't really disagree about background checks, but it wouldn't have stopped what happened in Vegas. |

I agree but if a universal background check system could stop even *one* of these events from happening, it would be worth it. A background check is really not an inconvenience. |

This is not 2001 Harry. It's 2017, terrorists exist throughout the planet and the threats have multiplied. |

I don't really disagree about background checks, but it wouldn't have stopped what happened in Vegas. And in Chicago we get almost 15 times as many killings every year with the toughest gun laws in the nation and almost nothing is said. Of course, if you have your felony-free girlfriend buy a gun for you, then you won't get caught in a background check. From what I've heard this guy had around a dozen weapons in the room and another bunch at home. I wonder if they were all purchased without background checks. I doubt it. |
