Default Done with Facebook

I've had a Facebook page since 2009 that I use occasionally to touch
base with family and friends. Recently however, I started getting
notifications on my cell phone about things and people I have never had
contact with. I don't even have the Facebook App on my cell phone.

I checked all my settings on Facebook and all the notifications are
turned off. I have tried to keep access to friends and family only.

Then I discovered that somehow I also have an "Advertising Account". It
has my email address but it's something I never signed up for or even
knew about. If you use it, it charges $$ to a credit card or something.

Anyway, that was enough. Found the appropriate page and deleted my
Facebook account completely. It's getting too wacky and too
"collective" in terms of information on you.

If you are not paying for the product, you are the product. I only
have to see that tag line on your posts to see how you are paying for
your free anti-virus by spamming your friends. I hope it is not going
any deeper into your PC but be aware when you authorized AV software,
it runs at the administrator level.

As for Facebook, I don't fool with it but Mr Ed still has an account,
that has been taken over by "Deuce" (Mr Ed II)
Neither of them have any credit cards.

I've used AVG free for years on four computers and have never had a
virus or malware type problem on any of them. Very happy with AVG. It
runs in the background, causing no slow downs of computer performance
like Norton or Macafee does. Once in a great while searching for
something on the web I'll get a popup saying that it blocked a
connection due to a suspected bad link, so it's doing it's job. The
virus and malware definitions are updated daily automatically. I think
it's one of the best anti-virus, anti-malware programs around and that's
not just my opinion. It is rated the best of all of them last time I
looked by the computer guru community.

As for the advertising tag line, I forgot to turn it off when I first
commissioned this new computer. I've done so now since it seems to
bother you and Harry. :-)

The only strange thing I have seen was when I bought something on Ebay
and the next day an ad from a relative for that exact item showed up
in Mr Ed's timeline. He didn't have a clue and I am pretty sure Ed was
not shopping on Ebay. They had to have sniffed a cookie on my machine
when Ed was on Facebook.

Heh. I used to have a separate Facebook page for Sam Adams. I finally
deactivated it. That's the other thing about Facebook. If you
deactivate your account and page, it's still there but can't be seen by
anyone. All it takes to re-activate it is to log in.

I don't think Mr. Ed had any worries. The hackers and scam artists
probably don't even know what DOS or Windows 98 is. :-)
