Default Nice boat, John!

Tim sez..
"Don I think your 3.0 is EFI. Or throttle body. Not sure. I think carbs are all a thing of the past now. Â*

Is yours raw water cooled or have a separate cooling system?"

I have the TKS version (turn key) and remember the salesman saying the carburetor was a good thing on the 3.0 motor.
It also has seawater cooling. Good on lakes...maybe not so great in salt water.
I flush and rinse down the boat and motor everytime out on salt water.

I don't think the 2.5 is in production anymore. The 3.0 is the basis of the mercruiser line.

I like the 3.0 for small craft. My 18ft has one. It does great at 32-3500 rpm and I can tube my nephews at the lake all day on 10 gal of gas...

I've not pulled the kids in my boat yet, but it'll be interesting to see how that inline six does
the job.
.....

That 6 will do just fine. My 3.0 is 120 hp. It's like your 6 with 2 cyl. lopped off.
I doubt if you'll need it, but if ou need a starter. I have several just for the asking. These are marine starters too. Not car jobs that fit.

Ok. Maybe carbs are still available. I know a buddy has a 4.8 v6 that's 6 years old. It's EFI. And enclosed cooling.

These specs indicate throttle body and fuel injection. Maybe his has an older engine?

Btw, that straight 6 Chevy is a work horse of an engine and its economical too. You'll be toooobing the grandkids all day on a half tank of gas....

Is The John a boater again? Just in time...we were drafting legislation to ban disruptive non boaters from the group. ;-)

Had a great time yesterday . Put 3.25 hrs on my break-in schedule touring the North West Arm, harbour, Eastern Passage area and the Bedford Basin.
Only 8.75 hrs to go and I'll have my full 20 in.

A boat with a straight Chevy 6? Really? How interesting.

The odd thing is...in the spring when I announced my new boat The John and his Drama Queen, Justine, ridiculed me for being dumb enough to buy a boat with a Mercruiser engine over an outboard equipped boat. There were dire tales of manifolds and elbows rotting away as soon as it touched salt water and the high cost of replacement. Now The John buys an older I/O powered boat. What's up with that?

His I/o boat probably only cost 10% of your boat. Somewhat disposable.
