I don't hit curves and I try to avoid bumps and potholes as best I can.
Any advice on what oil to use in the four stroke MerCruiser 3.0 engine?

3 in 1 sewing machine oil.

That cast iron manifold in salt water will be worrisome enough.

Over-rated "problem". They last quite a few years and there are
millions of I/O's that spend their lives in salt water.

Eventually they will rust out and have to be replaced. Maintenance
issue, just like the exhaust system on a car or truck.

Perhaps 'over-rated' for a reason? I replaced mine at seven years.

It's much better to replace them too early than too late.

Amen. I'd had mine magnaflux tested at the five-year mark, but was afraid to go more than another
couple years afterwards. They were a mess inside when I replaced them.

My manifolds are aluminum, and the replaceable part is the riser. My motor
is closed cooling, with the manifolds being cooled by the antifreeze
mixture. Does require a heat exchanger and raw water pump. HEat exchanger
is around $400 and I run a jet drive, so the raw water is topped off the
drive outlet.
