I doubt you'd last a "New York Minute" in Chicago. I love taking
business/pleasure trips to that city...great hotels, shopping,
museums, restaurants, easy ride in from the airport, great meeting
facilities.

The ride from the airport to the city is one on the worst in any of the
big cities I've visited. Midway is better to the south side or
McCormick Place, but not by much. This is real experience on real
business trips.

There's good places, and there's not. I really don't want to go back
there, even to a lot of the good places.

One of my clients finances new and rehabbed multiunit housing in
mostly lower income neighborhoods, so I am occasionally visiting such
areas in major U.S. cities, including Chicago, DC, LA, NY, Milwaukee,
et cetera.

Sure.

I loved visiting my aunt in Chicago. Of course, like you, I stayed out of the 'combat
zones'. Wonder if the ghetto is run by Democrats?

I spent 4 seasons in North Chicago. The North Shore Line went right by
my complex so getting to Chicago or Milwaukee was easy. Although Chicago
Had many things to see and do, I spent most of my spare time in
Milwaukee for the ambiance of a small city.

In the 60s I spent a lot of time in Chicago. I lived on the west side
off Central at the Lake Street El in an apartment. It was a
neighborhood on the edge. Up toward the el, it was OK, 3 or 4 blocks
south was pretty rough.

Amen to that. Got the t-shirt. The suburbs aren't bad for a big city, but going downtown requires sticking to the well-known areas or having a local along with you. And O'Hare sux!
